Ainkara and Jacobs had scanned the electromagnetic pulse bomb from every angle they could. Sure, they had all that data but it still did not tell them which tendrils did what, or how to deactivate it should it try to go off. Then, light dawned on a marble head. Looking to Jacobs, Ainkara had to ask. "How are you with mind melds?"
Jacobs crinkled his face in confusion. "What?" After a moment of just staring at her he went on. "I don't know, never had one."
"We could try something unorthodox, with you and I sharing a mind meld. Are you okay with this?" She asked.
"That depends on what it is we're trying to do. I don't need you seeing what I did with my last gal pal in private." Jacobs gave a grin.
"I have no interest in that since I have never had the experience," stated Ainkara, saying it non-chalant as if her virginity did not matter. Which, it didn't. "What I propose is that I reach out with the Force, sensing the device and its purpose, all while melding with you and aiding in guiding your hands and eyes to where they need to be to deactivate this bomb."
"Uhhh...will that work?"
"There is only one way to find out, right?" Ainkara gave him a smile. "I promise not to invade your privacy." Unlike Humans, Ainkara did not think with her vagina. She was on a mission and that came first. Being distracted while on an away mission by a romantic interest caused one to miss things that otherwise could have been perceived. Anyone who said otherwise was fooling themselves.
Jacobs gave a groan, but it was one of agreement. "Alright. I got a bad feeling about this, but go ahead, Kara."
Kara? Curious, she thought. He even pronounced it car-uh, like it was supposed to be. She would let it slide since they had more important things to look to. "The moment I touch you I can make the connection. It will feel strange, invasive, but you need to relax and allow it."
After a couple of quick breaths, and getting in a better position to work on the device, Jacobs gave the nod. "Okay, go ahead."
Reaching out her left hand Ainkara placed it on the back of his neck, the nape, holding on with a firm, yet slight grip so as not to make him feel anxiety. Her telepathy immediately made the connection but she slowed it down, allowing his mind to adjust. "Your mind to my mind. Your thoughts to my thoughts. Relax, breathe easy." Using the Force, Ainkara focused it on the device, allowing the strange energy field to encompass the device and begin to ascertain what was what. "I will guide your eyes when ready. Follow along and use your skilled hands to begin to disconnect the tendrils and the device as a whole."
"Understood," said Jacobs, his voice sounding as if he was in a dream state.
For the next few hours they worked together, connected mentally, as Jacobs was able to disconnect all the tendrils and remove the device without incident. Ainkara pulled her hand away from his flesh, breaking the connection, and Jacobs harumphed and collapsed onto his backside as he breathed heavily.
"That was intense," he said.
"That is one word for it," said Ainkara. They scrambled out of the computer core, now standing at full height in a work chamber. "I shall take that to the Admiral and the Chief, unless you wish to come along?"
"You bet I do," replied Jacobs. "We got it out, we should go together."
"I couldn't agree more." With that said Ainkara began to walk out of the chamber with Lance Corporal Jacobs at her side, heading for OPS.
