Sabbath completed his check list and prepped his bags and tools for the away mission. He was hopeful there would be two teams which would avail more space to be scanned. No doubt Tara Herculoid would stay with the Commodore which meant Sabbath would be with whomever was commanding the other team.
< Bridge >
Sabbath made a quick ride up to the bridge to receive whomever was manning the station. Tapping his comms badge he called Tara the other science chief.
" I am heading to the Bridge. Please hail me when the Commodore is ready to beam down." Sabbath asked of Tara.
Tara tapped her com-badge "I'll let you know. I'm getting my field kit read as we speak. I'm sure it won't be long. You know how the commodore is about a new planet."
" I am learning. At least here there are no restrictions to what tools to bring.. " Sabbath replied.
"That is true, I'm taking a field kit that will include vials for collecting various plant, soil and water samples so we can determine when and why this planet lost life," Tara said.
" We should also study the sun in this system as well. Solar flares or intense radiation bursts. Especially given its size." Sabbath added.
"I suggest a sensor sweep of the sun," Tara suggested
" We need to measure the suns readings and get a more detailed measure of it. I will inform the Commodore that we need to do a deep scan of this system and see what effects solar radiation might have played down there." Sabbath suggested.
Tara nodded "I'll scan the sun, I didn't pick up anything but I will do a more detailed scan,"
" Agreed. I am requesting a transfer after this mission. I wanted to tell you first." Sabbath replied.
"Transfer?Transfer to where and why?" Tara asked stunned.
" The Commodore already has a competent science chief. My services here would be redundant and a waste of Starfleet assets. I have applied to several science vessels and starbases. Now concerning this planet I believe once we get those solar readings it may help us to understand why there is no life forms ." Sabbath explained and added.
"Sabbath I'm not the science chief, you are and if I've overstepped I'm sorry," Tara replied
" No over stepping Tara. You are this ships Science Chief. I am a trained officer and do not feel my style matches the Commodores command style. I do not require constant supervision as she seems to assert. Let us focus on this mission though. Is there anything else I can do to assist you down there?" Sabbath replied.
"I don't think the commodore is supervising all the time. If she is I don't think she means to," Tara said "As for assisting me on the planet, I can't think of anything. We'll both be collecting samples of soil, various fauna and even the water. "
" That is promising and even intriguing at least. Which supports my desire to have two teams. We can cover more ground." Sureth replied ignoring her defense of the Commodores command style.
Tara had launched a second probe and watched it closely as it made it's way into the planet's atmosphere. Guiding it deeper and narrowing the sensors on it. After several minutes she turned from the sensors and looked at Sabbath. "I'm not picking up anything. It's possible whoever was on that planet died off centuries ago. As far as I can tell there is nothing down there that is going to harm us or anyone else. As far as the away team splitting into two groups that will be up to Commander Parker and Commodore Song."
" I know. The sun activity may still have had an effect on the surface. It would not be the first time solar radiations killed off life forms beyond plants. I am packed and I will meet you in the transporter room when they call." Sabbath settled.
Tara watched him walk off and shook her head. Was she the problem as this was the second science chief that has left the ship.
