[Starbase Mercury – Main Sick Bay]
The time was now five minutes past 1700 hours. Both Lieutenant’s Clinton and Saunders and Ensign Humphrey’s appeared into the Main Sick Bay. There was a class like setting as the various engineering crew and other designated participants of the station had been taught medical triage and evacuation of injured personnel.
There was vital information, as every officer aboard a Starship like the Amandora and a Starbase like the Mercury had needed to be prepared for any situation. Especially the engineering crew who were around high energy plasma conduits and acidic coolant systems.
Saunders was the first to appear at the doorway, along with his mates. He had given a wave to Doctor Bjioro, seemed to be finishing up on time. A highly qualified Starfleet Officer did the training. Saunders had hoped the recruits for the Mercury base had paid attention and behaved themselves as he was responsible for them.
“Lieutenant., Doctor Bjioro. Damien Saunders, Engineering Chief of the Amandora. We have not met before.” Saunders had addressed the concern on his mind. “How did my officers do in training?” He gave a pensive smile.
Tore gave a grin as he looked up from the PADD in hand, the 'class' now getting out and leaving. "Just 'doctor' works for me, Mister Saunders. Rank is nice but it doesn't save lives." The grin became a smile as he went to answer the query. "Your people did well. Lieutenant Kahn saw to Security while I worked to better first aid training for non-medical personnel. Being engineers most of them knew the basics to save lives or offer aid. They, in turn, gave me pointers on damage control procedures." He stepped in and offered to shake hands. "Glad to meet you."
"Likewise Doctor." He grinned. He could sense that the man was a no nonsense type of character. He liked his attitude. "Well. I really appreciate it." He paused, turning to see that Clinton and Humphreys had entered the room to address the engineering crew. "Lemme tell you. The first time I had my Starfleet first aid exam, I nearly botched the whole thing. I probably had the AI screaming instead of knowing what was a sedative next to a stimulant." He shook his head.
"Humphreys."
"Yes Sir." Ensign Eva turned away from one of the engineers. "Give this man a doughnut, he deserves one." He then paused, and stood with his hands at his waist. "She," he coughed. "Baked them herself."
Bjorgo gave the woman a dashing smile. "Home baked? I think I'll have one." Tore looked in the box as it was held open for his viewing pleasure, picking a standard glazed donut which he lifted with his left hand; two fingers and a thumb. Taking a bite and chewing, tasting home made pastries, Bjorgo gave a grin as he swallowed. "Brilliant! Not often do we Starfleet get anything cooked. I should have you all over for my jambalaya."
Eva giggled. She eyed Dr. Bjioro, as her face turned beet red. “I would like that, yes.” She then turned and watched him while standing there still. There was a pause in the conversation.
Saunder stood there, and for a split second, he saw what was happening. He could have felt a sudden urge to throw up in his throat. He pleasantly nodded and then coughed. “Well, then. Dr. Bjioro. It looks like we were making off to a great start on the station. If there is anything you ever need from Engineering, we’re got it covered.” He assured the Doctor.
He then followed up with the rest of the engineering crew, who were now picking up their notepads and briefing shoulder packs. “This way, guys.” He gestured for the rest of the team.
“Umm. Yes. Eva, I will see you later then.”
“Later, why?” She had asked.
“Because your starting to stare, hun.” Saunders winked at her. It was an intense display of young officer crushing.
“Yes, Doctor. I want to try your Jumbalaya sometime. If your half as good a cook as you are-“
Saunders suddenly felt uncomfortable. “I..” He gestured with the rest of the engineering staff and Clinton. “Will be this way…” He then addressed once again. “Thank you again, Doctor, you have been exceptional with your help.” Saunders was sincere. The only thing that wasn’t was his gurgling stomach about to vomit.
Tore waited until the young woman was gone before chuckling. "Perhaps I should learn to be more crotchety. I was merely trying to be nice, not set her mind running with all kinds of hair pulling and jumping about."
Damien laughed. He shook his head. "It's just Ensign Humphrey's. In a week her mind will be open to a new holo-romance, or cooking recipe. We like to look after her. Your a great sport Doc!" He nodded.
"I will head back to the ship." He picked up a padd. He nodded.
