Mission:
The Restroffs (Space Spiders)
Location: USS Amandora
Timeline: After the mission briefing
On:
Porter left the meeting eager to get going on the upcoming mission, though a little apprehensive given his dislike of spiders. As he got down to his office, the comm line beeped.
=/\= “Captain Porter I want two impulse fighters readied so when the shuttle is launched you can be ready to launch the fighters to escort the impulse shuttle is launched for the rescue you’ll be ready to defend it if needed. =/\=
He tapped his combadge. =/\= "Aye, ma'am, we'll be ready shortly. Porter out." =/\= All of this happened so quickly after arriving that Porter didn't even get a chance to meet his staff yet.
Porter pushed the comm button on his desk. =/\= "Starfighter wing pilots, this is Captain Jackson Porter. All pilots please report to the Pilot Ready Room. I say again, all pilots report to the Pilot Ready Room. Mission briefing to start in 10 minutes. Porter out." =/\= He picked up a work PADD, headed out of his office, and down the hall to the ready room. It was tiered with two rows of seats for any pilots to sit in for briefings and trainings, not just the fighter pilots but also shuttle and runabout pilots.
In the front of the room was a podium to the side of a viewscreen. Porter walked up to the podium and transferred the gathered information from the PADD to the podium computer. As he did, the door in the back opened and several pilots walked in. The first one in line was the only one he immediately recognized, his executive officer First Lieutenant Udal, a short, long-haired Klingon.
"Alpha squadron, reporting as ordered, sir," Udal stated as the group stopped at attention.
Porter nodded. "Take your seats." He walked to the podium as the pilots all sat. "Before we begin, I'd like to introduce myself. I am Captain Jackson Porter, the new Starfighter Wing Commander. First Lieutenant Udal is my XO, and is a proven pilot with an impressive record." Porter gestured to Udal, who nodded in response.
"Now, here's what we have for our first mission." He punched up the information onto the viewscreen, bringing up an image of the spiders.
"Woah, are those spiders?" one pilot stated.
Porter nodded. "Yes...yes, they are."
"Ugh, I hate spiders," another pilot said.
"I hope we get to zap them."
"Enough!" Udal's voice cut through the chatter from the other 4 pilots. The chatter stopped immediately.
Porter cleared his throat. "As I saw saying, we have out first mission. The Captain wants two fighters ready to escort shuttles when called upon." He changed the screen to bring up the image of a fighter craft. "I know most of you flew Peregrine and Sparrow-class fighters, but our ship has received Valkyrie-class fighters. The control systems are basically the same, and the fighter takes the best aspects of the other two and puts them in a slightly smaller frame."
"As I recall, they also have ejection systems," Udal added.
"Yes they do," Porter replied, "but the life support systems are minimal and you still need to count on a flight suit. I will take the first shift on the flight line along with Lieutenant Foster. Udal, I want you and the remaining three pilots to be ready in case we need additional assistance."
Udal nodded. "Aye, sir."
"I won't lie, we have very little information about these spiders. While I hope they aren't hostile, we need to be ready to defend the ship as necessary. And if you're as uninterested in spiders as I am, well...we just have to deal with it." Porter chuckled, along with a couple others. "Are there any questions?" No one said anything. "Very well. Report to your stations. Dismissed."
