Mission: The Restroffs (Space Spiders)
Location: 10 Forward
Timeline: Concurrent --

[ON]:

On his way from his Quarters on Deck 02, the assistant Engineer decided to stop in at 10 Forward. On his way to work, he usually picked up a delicious red apple and a mug of some kind of sugar-free sports drink. His breakfast didn’t fuel his body. So, by the time noon had arrived, Damien stopped in once more from his quarters.

Taking the express turbo lift to the saucer section, to deck 02. Lt. Jg. Saunders picked up a PADD with some projects. He had experimental data on saucer separation procedures on older Federation Starships such as the coveted Galaxy Class. They were so useful, so well built, they lasted by design aircraft carriers in their own right.

“Ok. Time to get a coffee.” He checked his analog wristwatch.

Entering, the large wood beamed doors, with glass etched portholes with federation logos on them, hissed open. A large room filled patrons, to a backdrop of stars currently in position.

That’s when he ordered his mug of coffee. He enjoyed speaking to the bartender rather than interacting with computers all day.

“Thank you.” He received the stainless steel mug filled to his specifications: two cream, two sweeteners, dark roast.

He turned to take a drink, and she looked his way.

Burning his tongue, he swallowed the coffee and looked back at her. With a split second, he drank and found his self walking through the tables halfway to meet.

“Hello.” He spoke. “I’m Damien.” He introduced. Hell, it was the best he could do when… When he didn’t know what drew him to the table to meet her. A sense inside?

Tara put down her PADD and looked up at the man who had spoken to her "Hi, I'm Tara please join me," she said smiling

Saunders had smiled to himself. “Your name is Tara. Nice to meet you, Tara.” Damien took her offer to have a seat. As an El-Aurian, Saunders had an Ear for the listen speak.

Taking a seat, Saunders relaxed in. He did not want to look like a pig. He was starving at this point. He began to take a bite and then chew on an oatmeal cookie. He had a few and offered the sterile plate to Tara.

“Care for an Oatmeal cookie? They were replicated by the master chef this morning.” He asked Tara.

"Thank you," Tara said taking a cookie and at the same time pushing a large basket of french fries to the middle of the table. "Help your self to those. I ordered a large basket but my eyes were bigger than my stomach." she took a bite of the cookie "I've not had an oatmeal cookie since my academy days."

Saunders nodded. “Frisco? So many great bakeries.” He laughed. “I probably put a bit more on a freshman fifteen, than I should have in the academy.”

Tara laughed "Your not the only one, I think I gained fifteen pounds while in the academy. I had to really work to get it off. Good thing for holo-decks and gyms on ships. So what is it you do here? I'm the science chief."

"I am assistant engineer, well chief for the being right now." He nodded. "Science girl! Is it true what they say? All science labs are considered your secondary quarters?" He joked.

"They can turn out that way. My parents set me up a lab back home and I put a bed in there and a small stove and refrigerator. I think I spent nearly a week in there and my dad came to check on me more than once as I'd not been the house in days," Tara said "So yes it's true. Engineer, your the one who keep this ship running. Hopefully the captain will se how good you are and give you the chief position."

“Wow.” He nodded. “So you're definitely into your work then. That is great. To meet someone else in Starfleet who enjoys what they do every day.” He smiled. “I feel the same way about engineering.”

He patted his chest from his 4th cookie, a bit of a sugar rush. “If I can leave my shift, with something improved. That is a change I’ll take.”

"Likewise," Tara said "I know one thing, these spiders sure give me the creeps. I'm not a big fan of spiders, I do my best to avoid them. But since we're stuck here I can't avoid them."

"I don't think they will bother us too much." He shrugged.

"Dock spiders. Large and furry. Back on Earth. At my parents' cottage. Disgusting. They eat small birds."

“I mean, I am worried. But are they spiders?” He raised a questioning brow.

Tara shuddered "Spiders terrify me, I'd see one in my rooms and I'd let out a scream and I'd run out of there and find someone to kill it. Now we're trapped and they are all over the place. I'm the science officer and it's my job to find a way to try to find a way to help them. Granted the anti-matter pod that was placed inside an impulse shuttle and shutting down the warp core seemed to have worked. But for how long?"

“Interesting.” He paused. “You know. An idea would be to hydro-phase, the ablative armor of the craft with anti-matter coating.” He thought it through. He then checked on his engineering PADD he had at his side.

“If you would like help, I would be more than willing to partner.” He felt glad if he could help the situation.

"I'd welcome the help," Tara said "And your idea might just free not only us but the other trapped ships out there,"

“Tara, we would have a lot of work to do with the hull plasma manifold matrix. If we coat all these vessels in anti matter paste, we don’t want to ignite their tailpipes!” He noted.

“This is science work. I can’t do anything without science!” He chuckled. “You would know.”

Tara nodded "The captain is an accomplished scientist in her own right. But we still should run this by her while I'm certain it will work she does have the final say."

“Of course, I’m certain the Captain may have ideas herself.” He agreed. “Maybe we and you we're going to meet at some point it would seem.” Saunders offered. He finished off his mug of coffee, and swallowed. This would be good if they could work together well. Tara seemed friendly.

"You've not met the captain yet?" Tara asked as she finished her burger "Science and engineering often work together and I look forward to working with you."

"Do you listen to music when you lab work?" He grinned, having a few playlists his self. Music helped Damien work to his own world sometimes.

Tara nodded "I do listen to music, either country or nature sounds. Just the sounds no music with them. It helps keep me focused."

"Ok. Looks like we got some good ideas. I have not yet had the chance to meet Capt. Song. But that is immediately on my list." Damien nodded.

Tara nodded "We do have some good ideas and I think you'll like the captain, she's tough but fair. She'll listen to you and is open to your suggestions."

"Sounds like a plan." Saunders added. With that both officers went their ways, to meet up on some work later on.
