# 41 - The Science Kind

Damien had finished work in main engineering. He had wanted to see what was going on in the sciences department. He had never fully checked out all the department had to offer from a technology standpoint. As an engineer he often had to do work in some science labs on past missions. From curiosity standpoint he entered the main sciences labs.

Passing by a few science officers, Saunders picked up a few instruments from a tray he had never seen before. Pressing a button, one of the rays began to emit a hot beam, only to shut it off quickly and set it back down. Hoping that nobody noticed his tampering, he seen a familiar face.

"Tara." He smiled. "Hope you don't mind I let myself in." He looked around the lab. "Fascinating machinery here."

Handing a PADD to one of her officers "Take care of that will you?" seeing his nod Tara turned her attention back to Damien "I don't get a lot of visitors in here. Things look intimidating but once you get familiar with things it's not that bad. Your always welcome in here."

"Tara... Is this the lab that has the new microfluidics artificial intelligence and machine learning (AI/ML)?" He had only heard of a few starships that were equipped with the trial technology. Even though it was a science tool, Saunders was more than impressed from an Engineering standpoint.

He couldn't help but begin to walk over to the walled machine, in opaque white gloss, and AI features and 3-D visualizations. "Remarkable." He breathed outward, impressed.

"It is, this is the main lab, there are a couple smaller ones. But this is the primary science lab. Even the captain take bench time in here when she has time, I'm able to program a probe from here as well as keep an eye on what is going on from the bridge," Tara said

"Cool." He nodded. "Anything I can help with? The warp core is up and running, rather slow right now." He didn't want to bother the Science Officer, yet he thought he would ask.

"Right now everything is fine. All the equipment and instruments are working properly. But your welcome to double check. Your the engineer and I may have missed something," Tara said

The Engineer chuckled and shook his head. "I thought the scientists were in charge of fixing..." He shook his head at the incredible science tech. "This stuff. But when something breaks, I'm sure we can fix it.. Somehow?" He laughed.

"I will let myself out, thank you for having me drop in." He said to Tara.

"Your welcome in here anytime. I can fix most things but not everything," Tara said smiling "I'll walk you to the door."

"Thank you for the tour." Replied Saunders. "Anytime your bored. Give us a drop in down in Engineering." He paused thinking. "Mnnn.. Call before, so we can clean the carpets first." He joked.

Tara couldn't help but laugh "I just might do that."
