Post Number 22 A Big Problem

Tara followed Mala deep into the woods, Mala paused long enough to call for a Moth, when one landed she got on it and the winged creature took flight. It flew next to Tara.

“Remember I told you we can’t walk far, this is one of many Moth’s that we ride. We care for them and in return they help us,” Mala said

“It’s beautiful,” Tara said holding up her tri-coder “This is a device that I use to scan things and get readings from; it won’t harm you or your Moth. Do I have permission to scan it?”

Mala nodded “You have been honest with me, you have permission.

Tara scanned Mala, the Moth and the surrounding area as they soon came into a clearing, the Moth landed, Mala got off and the Moth flew away.

“This is our village,” Mala said pointing to a large number of mushroom shaped houses. The people looked at Tara as she walked with Mala and many of them ran into their houses. A man who had the air of importance walked over to them, “Jobst this is the woman I spoke of, she said she can help us.”

“I’m Jobst the leader of these people,”

“I’m Lieutenant Tara Herculoid from the star ship that’s in orbit. Some of my friends have met with Kyron. Myself included.”

“Come, we’ll talk,” Jobst said turning to Mala “See to it our people know she’s not the others and she’s here to help.”

Tara and Jobst walked off a short distance, there was a ring of logs set around a fire pit. Taking seats Jobst looked at Tara for a few minutes before speaking.

"Why have you come?" Jobst asked


"Governor Kyron reached out to the United Federation of Planets and asked for admittance into the Federation. We've come to see if Zaris Three is ready to join and see what they have to offer and in return we'll assist in many things," Tara said

"And until a few days ago you didn't know we were here," Jobst commented "Kyron is not what he seems and we were here long before the others arrived."

Tara nodded "Mala told me as much, she also told me about the Moths that help you and in return you care for them and that Kyron and the others have taken them away from you because of their beauty and you never see them again."

"Mala has informed you well. The Moths assist us in many ways, they help us plant fields, take us places, help us in building our homes and in return we care for them, protect them and live in harmony with them. The very houses you see, their young feed on them and that makes the houses we live in. Kyron and the others have taken many of them to get them to serve them. But away from here they die," Jobst said "You've noticed the different colored sky and the different smells here?" seeing her nod he continued "The Moths are the reason the sky is pink, it's something in them that turns the sky that color and makes it smell differently. They can only live in this area."

"Have you tried to explain this to Kyron?" Tara asked

Jobst nodded, "He says that it's not true, I told him that given time for the Moths to adjust they could survive out there but the others are not willing to wait for them to adjust."

"My commanding officer is a scientist along with Lieutenant McTavish and myself. If you'll permit me I'd like to take some readings here and possibly take some samples of some of your plants and if you happen to have one or two of the chrysalis that the adult Moth's emerge from so we can study them and possibly see if we can speed along the process out there," Tara said

"Your very wise, it just happens that there are some I'll take you to them and your may have a few along with a small mushroom that they feed on. The caterpillars are mostly in the chrysalis right now but there are some that have hatched and you may have those," Jobst replied

Together they collected the samples of what Tara had asked for and carefully placed them into containers. "I thank you, I'll be in touch and I'll bring my commanding officer with me next time," Tara said tapping her com-badge and in minutes was back on the ship.

Tara dropped her samples off in the lab, secured them and headed for her office and read the report from Nix and Dugan. Combined with what Jobst had told her had her highly unnerved. Something was very wrong there.

Tara sent a report to Cyndi and one to James and asked for a meeting.
