Lieutenant JG Lana Peck walked into the Lab wanting to get started on the, supposed, bone fragments that Lieutenant Hunt had sent down late yesterday. Going to the secured locked cabinet Lana grabbed the clear container that was sent to her.
The first order of business was to turn on the Spectrometer and let it warm up for a few moments while she ran a couple of the larger sized specimens through the plasma cutters to shave off a thin slice to use for analysis.
Placing the specimen into the machine, Lana set the timer then started the machine and would now wait for the results.
After about forty five minutes the machine stopped then Lana walked over to the readout display and was very interested in the results. The bone fragments were indeed from a sentient being but the age was only speculation from the machine's point of view.
Taking the samples Lana walked over to the PACD, photon assisted carbon dating, and setup the machine to hopefully come up with some sort of age on these specimens which would be fed directly into the Ship's Computer for further analysis.
Finally after a few hours the Computer acknowledged the test and analysis were completed. Walking over to the screen Lana cracked a smile as she read the findings " The bone specimens are from sentient beings dating back eight thousand years with a ninety percent certainty" she read from the Screen. Thinking for a few moments "Computer, can you assess what species these bones came from" Lana queried hoping for the best. "Assessing now" the Computer replied. After a few minutes came the response "Negative....the bone fragments are too small to accurately assess the species....a larger bone is required."
Tapping her Comm "Lieutenant Hunt this is Lt. JG Peck, do you have any larger bone samples that I could check" she queried.
"Hunt here.....sorry Lieutenant but you have everything that we found on the Planets surface" he responded "What have you found".
"That's unfortunate" Lana replied then continued "You were right Mr. Hunt the bone fragments are indeed from sentient beings from about eight thousand years ago but the exact species we can't determine."
Hunt was very excited "Hot damn! I love it when I'm right" he stated with a big smile on his face "You are going to send your findings to Lieutenant Zolon I assume."
"It's nice to see such enthusiasm Lieutenant and yes a report to the Chief is next on my todo list, Peck out" she stated then went to her Office.
After grabbing a water Lana sat down at her Terminal and wrote the following:

To: Lieutenant Cassandra Zolon
Subject: Bone Fragment Analysis
Priority: Medium
Upon the analysis of the bone fragments sent to me I have determined that the fragments are from a sentient being dating back, with ninety percent certainty, eight thousand years. Sadly the bones were not large enough to determine which species they originated from.
The Spectrometer and PACD was used in this analysis with the information going directly to the Ship's Computer.
Respectfully Submitted,
Lieutenant JG Lana Peck
Head Anthropologist
USS Amandora

After carefully going over the report for any errors, Lana hit the send button and sent it off to the Chief.
