Mission: BUGS OH NO!!
Location: Bridge
Timeline: current

ON:

Kirk arrived on the Bridge for her Alpha shift as the new Helm, or Flight Control, Chief. She preferred the word helm, being a history buff. Her entry had been through the aft turbolift, and as she made her way to her station the starboard lift opened and out walked Ensign Resch. They gave each other a grin and nod as he too went to his seat to her left, both of them taking over and relieving the officers already there. After the brief shift report from her predecessor Kirk settled in and set up her console the way she liked it, to aid in quick response time. With Amandora in orbit over a world there was not much to do, but what was needed she took care of.

For his part, Marcus Resch did the same as Kirk, preferring a certain set-up for ease of duty with his console. It had been a while since he had actually taken part in Operations, instead doing his Boatswain duties. But, as with all things familiar, it did not take him long to adjust and get to work. He did note that there had been an inordinate use of the lateral sensor arrays, with Doctor Long and Lieutenant Herculoid as the officers who had logged into the system for use. Tapping keys he looked to why. The sensor logs and data showed they had been using the arrays to scan the moon of Midora III, and in so doing had found a paleolithic society of aliens. He read through it since Operations officers were also science officers in their own right. Not as focused in the fields as the people in blue, but a basic understanding of most scientific disciplines. And, beyond that, their technical and engineering skills were always needed in some form or fashion.

The operations officer, sometimes shortened to ops officer, also known as the operations management officer or operations manager was a Starfleet department position within the operations division which was common in Starfleet. Operations officers manned the operations station on a bridge.

As analytical operations relied upon knowledge of science and engineering disciplines, operations officers often performed the additional duties of a science officer in their absence. The operations officer role, sometimes known simply as "ops" was its own department within the operations division, that was altogether separate from engineering and security.

To say that Resch was proud to be where he was right now would be a gross understatement. It was sad to see Thoros having to leave but he could rest assured that his department was in good hands with his successor. He glanced over at Kirk a moment before his eyes went back to his own board while he spoke. "Did you find those bikinis?" He asked, his cheeky grin showing he was being a muppet and continuing the conversation from last night.

"I did." Responded Kirk, both of them keeping their tone low and private. And, with them facing forward, those behind them would have a hard time hearing what was said. "Wouldn't you know it, I stripped down and voila! I was wearing one." She glanced his way sidelong, giving a wink and a grin in return.

"I think we're going to improve Bridge morale, Lieutenant. Nothing like a couple of class clowns to liven things up." He gave a soft chuckle.

Kirk went to respond but noticed that Cadet Ainkara was approaching Resch from behind, going to his left side.

"Excuse me, Ensign Resch," said Ainkara. "I am rotating through departments as is my due as a cadet. Commander Green has me slotted for Operations this week. I hope this is not intrusive."

Resch looked up at the stunningly beautiful Voran woman. "Not at all, Cadet Ainkara. Please," he said, getting up and motioning for her to sit down in his seat. "have a seat. First thing is to familiarize yourself with the console. Once you are familiar then you are allowed to adjust where things are for your own ease of duty and convenience."

Ainkara already knew all that from her previous departmental training. Even though she was slotted in Sciences, her cadet status demanded she go through the other departments as all other cadets would. Her eyes went over the console, seeing what was where, and liked how it was displayed. Mister Resch seemed to have a like-mind for layout. "This here," she motioned at a small monitor in the bottom left corner of the console. "Is the list of power requests?"

"It is," replied Resch. "When someone has a special need for power it is our job to see what power is going where, the priority of said power, and if we can accommodote. Power allocation is vital on a starship, Cadet."

"As it should be, Sir." Ainkara began to read the list, committing it to memory, then looked to power requests. Seeing a few priorities for power from engineering she made sure that those were kept in the positive as she took power from secondary systems to send to the requests.

Resch gave a few positive nods. "Well done, Ainkara. Perfectly executed."

"Thank you, Mister Resch." Ainkara continued to monitor the station, splitting her attention between the console and her mentor.

Kirk had been looking over occasionally, seeing the Cadet doing her duty well. She would have to check when Ainkara was due in Flight Control. She looked to be a star pupil.

"Since you seem to have mastered the OPS station, Cadet, I will assign you another task." Resch said. "I saw in the logs that you had recalibrated the lateral sensor arrays for the Science department. Now, I would like you to run diagnostics for those arrays for Operations, see to their maintenance, and then report back to me."

"Of course, Sir." Ainkara stood up from the OPS station, turning to face her supervisor with hands clasped behind her back in a very Vulcan pose. "Anything else beyond the arrays, Ensign Resch?"

Marcus shook his head. "Not at this time, Ainkara. See to the arrays and then I will have another task for you when finished. Carry on."

Ainkara gave a nod and walked away to the aft lift, entering and disappearing.

As Resch sat back down, Kirk looked his way. "Damn, I never expected that from you, Marcus."

"What's that," he asked.

"Your leadership qualities. The command staff made the right choice. Nicely done." Said Kirk.

Resch gave her a nod of thanks before looking back to his post.
