Mission:
Vanished
Location: starbase
Timeline: current
ON:
Having left the younglings to themselves, Ainkara returned to Kevin jacobs and his computer slicing. Scabbia was on watch with the other female marine so Ainkara squeezed into the small chamber with Jacobs, wanting to see how far he had gotten. "Any progress?"
"Aye, Cadet," answered Jacobs as he moaned and grunted to move his left leg to a different position. "Kinda cramped in here." He looked over at her. "Not that I mind being in tight spaces with women-folk."
Ainkara was pretty sure he was 'hitting' on her, as Humans liked to say. Maybe it was a sexual advance, maybe he was more interested in something long term, but this was neither the time or the place. But, then again, she had seen humor used at what she thought were definitely inappropriate times. "Would it help if I stood up and put my backside to you?" She knew that would put her tush right in his face.
Jacobs gave a laugh. "Sure, feel free. But, I won't get much work done after that. I'll be focused elsewhere."
Yep, thought Ainkara, it was just a sexual advance/joke. "Just get us access. Worry about my ass later."
Jacobs laughed again. "Please, stop. I can't get this done if I keep laughing." He then complimented her. "Nice use of the Human dialect. I didn't think you'd be comfy with the word ass, just yet. But, like us marines you seem to improvise, overcome, and adapt rather well. Congrats."
"Thank you, I think," said Ainkara, giving a grin. She spotted something untoward on one of the devices he had plugged into the computer core. "Wait! What is that?"
Jacobs rearranged his upper body to lean her way and look. "That...that is an ugly sign."
Ainkara waited a few moments while he was tapping keys and watching the small screen, before her cynical side showed itself. "Is there more or do I start guessing?"
"That reading there means there is something attached to the core, further down, and my equipment isn't sure whether it is friendly or not. Most times, it ain't." Jacobs looked up at her as she went to get up in a half crouch to squeeze back outside.
"I'll go have a look. Report in to Barnes, let him know I am back and we are still working on the core." With that said Ainkara began to move to another level down from where Jacobs was.
