#59 Risk and Reward

Barrad-Nur sat in his command chair casually sipping his punipp(coffee like beverage), gazing at the viewscreen. He was getting anxious and hated waiting when he had an objective in mind but being the perfectionist he was, not being ready to execute it.

A tall severe looking man entered the bridge and strode over to stand by the command chair. "She's a stubborn one my Lord. She still insist on only repeating her name, rank and service number. As per your orders I have treated her gently, issuing only threats and withholding food and sleep." He rubbed the back of his neck as he went on. "I could be much more effective without these shackles you have placed on my methods."

"Inquisitor Naam-Dur, I am well aware of your...talents, but You will follow my council. Do not make me adjust your attitude. You'll find that I have talents of my own."

Barrad-Nur put down his drink and walked over to stand in front of the viewscreen. He turned and addressed Naam-Dur again. "I'll have her moved to guest quarters, provide an attendant to see to her physical needs and feed her like a most honored guest. We'll make it clear to her that she's earned it."

"Sir?" Naam-Dur said quizzically. "She'll see right through that I think."

"Just play along with whatever I do. Go back and resume your interrogation. Soon, someone will come and dismiss you and take over from you. Act deeply offended, then go get drunk if you wish. I need you to continue to act like you're angry that you were dismissed. I will have need of that anger later. Understand, I am not unhappy with your performance. This is simply a ruse."

Naam-Dur nodded. "Very well sir. I will comply." He turned to go but before he reached the lift he turned and asked "So I have permission to get drunk on duty sir?"

Barrad-Nur laughed. "Of course my friend, you've earned it.
