#5 Timing is everything

Jackson walked casually down the corridor after exiting the lift, his destination not too far ahead as he was heading for Security to bounce ideas off of Commander O'Connell and Lieutenant SanChez. As he rounded the bend Barnes saw an Andorian woman dressed in SCI blue step out of a briefing room ahead of him, and then slow her stride as she too looked to be headed for Security. Jack had always found Andorian women to be exotic, and they were usually pretty badass when it came to combat, being raised to defend Andor against all enemies at all times. The old Imperial Guard had become the Sovereign Guard after Andor joined the Federation as a founding member. But, for whatever reason he found that blue skin, white hair, and antennae attractive. With these thoughts in his head he had to stop short as the woman halted her forward progress, just outside the door to the main Security department.

"Are you alright, Miss?" Asked Barnes, noting that this Andorian female was quite attractive as she spun around to look at him, her antennae now bent more forward, close together, as she focused on him. "Oh, pardon, couldn't see your pips, Lieutenant. Is everything okay?"

Sheyla noted the man in green camo BDU's, wearing an equipment belt with all the devices he needed, minus the stun baton and the grenades, but sporting his phase pistol in a tactical holster. A soldier. That in itself made her more curious about who he was. Her eyes darted to his rank pin. "Everything is fine, Captain. Just, well...I'm a medical officer." She let that trail off as she was trying to find a way to word what she wanted to say.

Barnes gave a friendly, crooked grin, seeing her discomfort as she hesitated to figure out what she was going to say. "Let's start over, maybe that will help." He placed a hand on his chest with a slight bow from the neck. "Captain Jackson Barnes, assigned to the marines." His hand came away from his chest and extended for a handshake. "And, you are?"

There was a slight cuff sound as the Andorian hand shot out and clasped his hand in a firm but friendly handshake, Sheyla not being one of those women who believed in dainty, weak displays of femininity. Plus, Andorian females were more aggressive than Human women and they liked to make that apparent more often than not. "Lieutenant Sheyla, or Doctor, if you prefer. A pleasure, Sir."

The hands came apart as Barnes continued to grin. "The pleasure is mine, Sheyla." And, he meant that. A quick thought passed through his mind wondering if she liked BBQ and beaches, but he shoved it away just as quickly. "So, do you have a complaint to file, a boyfriend who won't leave you be? I noticed you are procrastinating entering Security."

"Actually," explained Sheyla. "I'm a tactical/security officer. My secondary in the Academy. So, I am coming to see if they need another Security officer, or should I just stick to scrapes and sutures."

Barnes gave her a few nods. "I don't know Commander O'Connell overly well, but what I do know about him is that he will use all his people. If you want to stand some Security watches I'm sure they can fit you in somewhere in-between your Sickbay duties."

"My thoughts exactly," smiled Sheyla. "Will you play chaperone for me, Captain?" She actually gave him a sweet and innocent look, batting her lashes in a dramatic fashion, all done with humorous intent.

JJ gave a chuckle. "Sure, Lieutenant. I got you. Come on." With Sheyla getting in next to him Barnes entered Security, approaching the watch desk and addressing the ensign there. "Good morning. Captain Barnes and Lieutenant Sheyla, here to see Commander O'connell, and-or Lieutenant SanCHez. We'll wait over here," he chinned toward a small corner area as he got Sheyla to move over there with him. They both stood easy, but in a parade rest style stance, patient in their waiting.

The Commander and Lieutenant were in the Security Office when the Ensign notified them of their impending guests "On my way" Jamie stated then motioned for Maria to follow. Walking out into the main area O'Connell walked over to the two Officers "Good Morning, I'm Commander O'Connell and this is Lieutenant SanChez how may we be of assistance" Jamie queried with a smile.

Barnes shook hands with both Security officers, Sheyla a close second.

"Jack Barnes, Sir. I just came down to have a casual chat about possible cross training between departments. Get familiar with being around each other during drills and such."

Sheyla gave a mirthfully stoic face. "I am a Tactical officer as my secondary so was coming down to see if perhaps I could fill in a shift now and then. Doctor Sheyla, Sirs."

"Mr. Barnes it certainly wold be beneficial for all concerned; I'll have Lieutenant San Chez look into it further" Jamie commented as Maria nodded compliance to the order.

"Doctor Sheyla I'll notify the Yeoman and she can get with you for a suitable time for you to have a time at Tactical" O'Connell stated with a smile "I'm sure the Lieutenant would welcome the extra help as well."

"Absolutely, the more personnel on the Bridge, the more personnel we have for Security" Maria commented with a grin.

Sheyla gave a compliant nod of gratitude. "Thank you, Commander. If nothing else I would like to be considered for away teams. Nothing like a medic who can also play soldier."

Barnes stood quietly, letting them hash that out.

"I will certainly keep that in mind; volunteers for away missions are far and few to come by" Jamie replied quite glad for the extra help in that area.

Finding a moment to intercede, Barnes piped up. "We can always work on the particulars later, folks. We'll even take the Doc on a few training exercises just to make sure she's up to snuff." He gave a grin, teasing at Sheyla while keeping others involved.

Looking at Maria "I'll have the Lieutenant come up with the particulars and get together with you Captain for your approval" Jamie stated "It was very nice to meet you both and look forward to working together" as Jamie no more than got the words out of his mouth he heard the Commodore's call. Looking at everyone "If you'll excuse me duty calls" as he excused himself to get to the Bridge.

Barnes gave a nod of acknowledgement to Jamie, as did Sheyla. "Of course. Commander, Lieutenant, Until we get together later." Like a marine, once he said that Barnes was done, proceeding out of Security.

Sheyla looked at Maria with a crooked smile. "Well, until later." She turned on her heel and left the department.
