Mission: Wedding Blues And Trouble
Location: Main Engineering
Timeline: current

ON:

Lieutenant Ainkara arrived in main engineering on Alpha shift. With Mister Montgomery away on leave it was left to her to get this ship back in order on a mechanical level. The team leaders were all gathered around the 'pool table' where the CEO spent most of their day seeing to issues. "Good morning, everyone. There is a lot to accomplish before we arrive at Cardassia Prime. So, let's get to it. We need to refrequence the shield emitters, all of them. Whoever accepts that task get with Science and have them aid in that endeavor. Turbolift maintenance is also a priority since they have fallen behind in that area. Let the crew know which lifts will be down, and for how long, then get them taken care of. When it comes to the Bridge, shut one down, get it done, then work on the other. Access to classified areas and command areas takes priority so, make sure those lifts are at the top of your list. We'll start with those tasks and work on other problems as they arise. Any questions?"

There were questions, as she had expected. They all went back and forth, brainstorming and discussing, before the group finally broke up and went to work. LTjg Diana York remained beside the pool table, to Ainkara's right. The young Human woman was seeing to various small tasks, a list which Kara saw had been quite long, but York had succeeded in dwindling it down to a dozen or so. "Good on you, Miss York, for seeing to those minor needs. Even the small things have maintenance needs."

"I agree, Lieutenant." York said, looking over at her new Asst. Chief Engineer. "Commander Green and I discussed these needs not too long ago."

Ainkara gave a slight grin. "Number One was once a chief engineer, so to see a beloved ship with health issues tends to make her...tense." That was the best word.

York smiled. "I gathered that by the way she spoke with me. It has been a zoo down here but I have tried to get things aligned as best I could in the short time I was in nominal charge."

"You know this engineering department better than I," stated Ainkara. "I will call on you often to help me in assessing priorities to keep the Amandora in the best condition we can."

"You got it," York said.

Seeing the woman's stance, her body language, told Ainkara that York was as serious as she was about fixing what was awry. "Do you have anything in mind that we may need to work on?"

York gave a nod. "Yes, Lt. Ainkara. We need to run some antimatter containment leak drills. We haven't had one in months."

"I see," said Ainkara. A moment of contemplation went by. "Grab a team and set up your drills. I leave you to decide the parameters for such a drill, and the pass-fail ratios. Is that acceptable?"

"Absolutely." York gave a big grin. "I'll see to it immediately."

"Thank you, Diana. My name is Ainkara, and friends tend to shorten it to Kara. Feel free to do so when we converse."

York nodded. "I'll remember that. Time to get the drill set up. See you later, Kara."

Satisfied with her first day in Engineering, Kara continued to peruse the schematics displayed on the pool table.
