The USS Finland had beat feet to catch up to the Amandora, at the request of their passenger. Captain Ami Fehr did not want to be away from 27 any longer than necessary, and she understood an officer's want to get back to their own home.
Her helm spoke up. "Approaching the USS Amandora, Captain. We're holding at warp three, with Amandora cruising at warp one. Approximate time to come alongside is seven minutes."
"Thank you, Helm. Once alongside match course and speed exactly." Fehr spun her chair to look at Tactical. "Contact the Amandora and request visual communication. Commodore Song's eyes only." Swinging back to forward, Fehr's eyes looked to the guest officer standing against the port bulkhead. She gave the woman a pleasant smile. "Almost home, Lieutenant Ainkara. I just hope the Commodore appreciates your wanting to surprise her like this."
Ainkara gave a slight grin. "As do I. But, the surprise is more for someone else on board, Captain. You have my thanks for agreeing to this."
"My pleasure." Fehr said.
"Commodore, you have an incoming transmission marked for your eyes only," communications announced
Cyndi stood and looked at communications, "Patch it through to my ready room." Cyndi walked to her ready room, took a seat at her desk, logged into her computer. Opening the channel "This is Commodore Song, who do I have the pleasure talking to?"
"Greetings Commodore. I am Captain Ami Fehr commanding the USS Finland. We have one of your officers aboard, and per her request, we pulled a sneaky." The Captain explained. "We contacted your Chief of Security first, to make sure that Commander Green was elsewhere so she would not know of our rendezvous. Not easy to hide a starship coming up on your aft." She gave a pleasant smile.
"No captain it's not, which of my officers do you have and why a sneaky request?" Cyndi asked smiling "Commander Green is in her quarters."
The Captain looked to her left and casually waved in someone out of view. Ainkara then stepped over and into view, with Captain Fehr standing and joining her side by side to look at the Commodore. "It is a pleasure to see you again, Commodore," Ainkara said. She had a slight grin on her face, a grin born from the joy of seeing her old commanding officer. "I would be the officer in question. I wanted to surprise you with this call, and still wish to surprise Commander Green by standing on the Bridge when she arrives. If you will allow that, of course."
"Permission granted lieutenant,I saw the report where you've been promoted to lieutenant junior grade. Commander Green forwarded it to me. Last report you were to join us at Cardassia. But then we're traveling extremely slow. I'll order helm to stop so you can beam over."
Captain Fehr smiled at the interchange. It was obvious that Lieutenant and Commodore were familiar with each other, and that they had a more familiar relationship than just superior and subordinate. "Commodore, if I may. We can come alongside and match course and speed precisely. That way we can beam her over without you losing any time. The Finland needs to get back to Starbase 27, so it will benefit us both."
"May I beam directly to your Ready Room, Commodore?" Ainkara asked.
"Permission granted, captain come alongside and transport when your in range," Cyndi said "Swing around to my port side as Commander Green's quarters are on the starboard side of the ship."
Fehr gave a nod and smile. "Helm, you heard the lady. Match course and speed on the Amandora's port side." The order was acknowledged and within a few minutes Captain Fehr looked back to the screen. "Commodore, prepare to receive our transfer." As the ship had been maneuvering Ainkara had left the Bridge, going to the transporter room and stepping onto a pad. When the transporter operator got the message that all was ready, he then looked up. "Lieutenant Ainkara, we are ready for transport. I have reinforced the annular confinement beam and matter stream for transport while at warp."
"Thank you. Energize when ready, Ensign." Ainkara was caught up in the transporter signal, everything going black for several moments until she rematerialized inside Cyndi's Ready Room.
"I thank you captain, I have my officer safe travels back home," Cyndi said as she looked to Ainkara "Welcome home lieutenant and congratulations." Cyndi walked forward and instead of the usual hand shake pulled the woman into an embrace.
Ainkara wrapped Cyndi in a friendly hug. "Thank you, Commodore." She released and stepped back. "I wish it had been under better circumstances, but only one life was lost."
"One life is too many," Cyndi said "But it could have been much worse. How are you. I received the report about your promotion and to say I'm thrilled is an understatement. You've done well."
"I am grateful to you, and the crew of Amandora, for all that I have learned." Ainkara admitted. "The promotion is welcome, but I would have done the same regardless. Now, the question is, where will I fit in as a commissioned officer?" She gave a slight grin. "For now, I am content to be 'home'. Also, Jamie Kirk is in custody and, was under heavy guard last I saw her. She was responsible for this whole affair."
"Currently your in both engineering and in sciences. I'll speak with Commander Green and give you a permanent position," Cyndi said "It's good to have you home, as far as Jamie Kirk that remains to be seen on what to do with her."
Ainkara gave a nod. "I'm sure Starfleet Command has it well in hand. She is no longer our problem, Commodore. I will speak to Number One and see to my assignment. Sciences and Engineering should do nicely."
"Kirk's fate lies in Starfleet Command," Cyndi replied tapping her com-badge "Commander Green I need to see you in my ready room. Science and engineering often work together."
Green knew of the Finland alongside, but for a different reason. Lieutenant Kudo was moving off the ship and had sent for a ship to transport him, and the USS Finland had answered the call. Ro had found it odd that they had responded so quickly, but shrugged it off. As she came onto the Bridge she heard Cyndi call her to the Ready Room, so she changed her path and went to the door, which opened for her since she had been summoned.
"You wanted to see me, Commo..." Ro's words trailed off instantly upon seeing her Apprentice standing with Cyndi, in her proper uniform as a Lieutenant JG. Without hesitation she came in and hugged the Voran woman with gusto.
Ainkara returned the warm embrace, her chin resting on Green's shoulder as she did so, a childlike grin on her face as she had her eyes closed to take in the moment. Tears squeezed from under her eyelids and ran down her cheeks. Never, in all her years, had anyone loved her enough to give her a hug upon seeing her. First, the Commodore, and now her Meji Master and Number One. Both women collected themselves and relinquished their hold on each other.
"She wanted to surprise you," Cyndi said after a few minutes "We have a couple of things to discuss. Ainkara is wondering about her position aboard ship and I did tell her that currently she's listed in both sciences and engineering."
Ro gave a nod to that, her happiness plain on her face. "Well done, Lieutenant. I think leaving you in Science is a boon, but we also need a good team in Engineering. How would you feel about Assistant Chief Engineer?" As Ainkara contemplated that Green turned her eyes to Cyndi. "Apologies, Commodore. I was going to inform you once the Finland arrived. Lieutenant Kudo from Strategic Operations is leaving us. I had no idea the Finland was carrying our lost Cadet, too. When I sent the need for a ride to SFHQ, they said the Finland could meet us in route. It seems that Captain Fehr is good at keeping secrets." She smiled at both women.
"Why was Kudo leaving us?" Cyndi asked puzzled "As for keeping Ainkara in science and engineering that's fine with me. Sabbath and Herculoid are easy to work with."
Green kept grinning even as she explained. "Mr. Kudo has been offered a posting more to his skillset elsewhere. Which gives me an idea in that regard." Her eyes went back and forth between the other two while she spoke. "There you go, Lt. Ainkara. You are now the Assistant Chief Engineer, and a Science Officer under Sabbath and Herculoid. Your duties will begin on Alpha shift tomorrow morning."
"You'll take science station two, I'm not sure if Sabbath or Herculoid will be on the bridge, one of them will be," Cyndi said as she looked to Ro "What is your idea regarding Kudo's departure?"
Ro gave Cyndi another grin. "I was thinking that Major Barnes could take on the Strategic Operations department, as Supervisor. He has had his marines in the marine country holodeck almost daily, running various combat and black ops. programs. Kudo, while he was here, ran a few with them, and then left Jackson with notes on Starfleet ranger training and tactics. Part of that training involves Security protocols and will give us forty more people we can rely on for boarding actions."
Ainkara, now a Lieutenant, decided to add in her thoughts. "That is a logical conclusion, Number One. He has been tireless in getting his marines more involved with day to day ship business."
"I agree and I also know Captain Rivers keeps her pilots on constant training so yes by all means have Major Barnes take Strat Ops over and hopefully he can managed the marines ad Strat Ops until I get word on when to expect Major Hurd back," Cyndi replied.
"Consider it done, Commodore." Green said. She then looked to the Voran. "Ainkara, we have much to catch up on. We need to continue your Meji training."
"I look forward to it, Master," Ainkara said. "If there is nothing more, may I see to getting my quarters switched from Cadet to Lieutenant?" She glanced back and forth between her two superiors, seeing who would answer first.
"Permission granted lieutenant," Cyndi said "And we'll see you on the bridge in the morning."
"Thank you, Commodore." Ainkara gave a slight bow/nod from the neck and departed.
Green watcher her leave and then turned back to Song. "I'll speak to the Major once we finish the dinner. It's just good to have our lost officer back. Until dinner, Cyndi, have a good evening." With that said Ro turned and left the Ready Room.
Cyndi watched her officers leave, checking the time it was time for her to go to her quarters and change into dress uniform for the dinner. Paul would be taking Narla to dinner in the lounge as a favor.
