Lt Sabbath left the dinner early and observed the off duty officers coming and going. All during the dinner he was interested by all the guests and pondered others reactions to the dinner.

Tapping his comms badge Sabbath called Lt Tara Herculoid for insight.

" Sabbath to Herculoid. Are you busy?" he called.

Tara had just gotten to her quarters and had changed into sweats pants and a t shirt when she got Sabbath's call, tapping her com-badge "I'm in my quarters, I'm not busy at all but am out of uniform."

" I am near there and wished to discuss some issues with you." Sabbath replied as he rounded the bulkhead to her quarters.

Tapping her chime and receiving the permission to enter he did.

" I am perplexed about this dinner. Are the Cardassian's attempting to expand their once great Union?" Sabbath asked.

"I don't know, from what I understood from the Princess it's an attempt to stop a war between her people and the Cardassian's. That kind of practice is not uncommon," Tara commented.

" It is when the Cardassians have never shown this type behavior before. I left before the end of the party. How did it end?"

"That's because your not a royal," Tara said "Arranged marriages are often done to bring cultures together, settle disputes and to stop a war. In answer to your question things went smoothly. There wee toasts given in honor of the upcoming wedding and she promised to try to be a good leader."

" Given her personality that is reassuring? Concerning duty assignments in Science. You clearly have the seniority. Why were you not offered the Chief slot?" Sabbath asked.

"I was science chief, when Lieutenant McTavish transferred aboard I stepped aside to give him the chief position. He's gone now and there was only a matter of a day from his departure and your arriving," Tara said.

" Rather odd. I was assigned several days before to arrive on the Amandora. Non the less if you feel threatened please do not be." Sabbath added.

"I don't feel threatened at all. As someone once told me, there is always someone better," Tara commented "So no worries there."

" You are a remarkable person Tara. I appreciate your taking the time to discuss these issues. I will see you on the bridge tomorrow." Sabbath added as he prepared to exit.

Tara got to her feet "I'm not that remarkable. My door is always open and remember what I was told. No matter how good you are there is always someone better. I'll see you on the bridge."

Sabbath nodded and exited her quarters perplexed as to why he had been summoned to a ship before anyone knew he would be needed. The humans have a saying " The writing was on the wall". Perhaps in his off time he would research the former science officers logs.
