#33 Meeting The Boss

Star Base Mercury
Location: Sick Bay

After checking to make sure he things had been delivered to her quarters, Kristian decided it was time to meet the Chief Medical Officer Kristian changed into a fresh uniform and pulled her long hair into a ponytail, braided it and doubled it before securing it, pulled on her lab coat and headed for sick bay. Nerves were getting the better of her already. Walking into sick bay a few minutes later Long asked where the CMO was and after being told he was in his office headed back to meet her boss. The door was locked open, tapping on the door frame she waited for him to be free.
Bjorgo looked up from his monitor, not recognizing the officer in his doorway. "Can I help you. Lieutenant? And, please. Come in." He stood and came around his desk to greet her properly.
Kristian walked into his office "I'm Kristian Long, I was just transferred here, I'm the new Assistant Chief Medical Officer,"
"Tore Bjorgo, he said, shaking hands. "I received word I was getting a new ACMO. Doctor H'iri is currently acting ACMO, but that shouldn't a be a problem. How was your trip out?" Asked Bjorgo as he turned and went back around his desk, motioning to the chairs in front of his desk as he sat down.
Kristian took the offered seat " Please to meet you. The trip was long, this star base is quite a way out here. If I'm stepping on toes I'll gladly take a different position."
"No toes to tread on." Stated Tore. "As I said, it was an 'acting' post. H'iri is an excellent physician and I appreciate that."
Kristian reached into the pocket of her lab coat and handed him a PADD "You'll find my qualifications on this. My last ship was an Akira Class this one is defiantly larger."
Bjorgo took the PADD and set it aside without even looking at it. "If you weren't qualified you wouldn't be here. And, it gives me something to read later," he grinned. "To catch you up on current events we have a joined Trill on board, so brush up on their physiology. Also, our Counselor had sex with a tree and she is now pregnant. The medical files are in the Sickbay records so give it a look-see as soon as you're ready. She is growing a bark-like carapace over her epidermis. H'iri is the main doctor on this, but we get together and troubleshoot." He stopped talking to let her respond after giving her quite a bit at once.
"I'm familiar with the Trill so that's not a problem. But how does one have sex with a tree?" Kristian asked let alone get pregnant by it? Maybe I don't want an answer to that. That is an interesting case. Something I will catch up on. When is this tree baby due?" Kristian asked after a few minutes to mull over what he'd told her about the tree pregnancy.
"It wasn't actual intercourse," Tore explained. "She ate something she wasn't supposed to on an away mission, some fruit from a creature called Brol. It made her pregnant. And, since you asked, the child is due any day now. Like I said, the medical logs explain it all better."
"I'll make that top priority," Kristian replied "I have to wonder why people eat things that are not deemed safe. I assume this Brol is the tree being that gave her the fruit?"
"That's the rumor," stated Bjorgo with a bit of humor in his tone. That disappeared rather quickly as he got back to being more serious. "I chewed her arse for it and she has promised to never do anything like that again. If she does I will recommend she be removed from away team missions. Other than that, she is doing well with it all, both physically and mentally, it seems."
Kristian nodded "She does it and you pull her of course it goes without saying I'll back you. How is the rest of the crew doing? Anything I need to be aware of other than a pregnancy that is to say the least odd."
Bjorgo gave a winning smile. "I can say that this crew is healthy and in good spirits. However, that has to be proven. And that," he said as he stood and came around his desk. "Is why I am glad you arrived when you did. I have yet to do the crew physicals. New ship, new CMO, so it has to be done. I figure we can get ours out of the way, all of Sickbay, then we go through the others alphabetically. No exceptions, Kristian. Anyone who doesn't get a physical gets removed from duty until that is corrected." His tone was pleasant and friendly but it was backed by medical authority. He leaned his backside against the front of his desk as he got in closer, letting her see he was already comfortable with her presence.
Kristian stood as well and smiled she liked her new boss "That's not a problem. I've found the hardest person to get in for a physical is usually the commanding officer. For some reason they think they are above them."
"Usually, yes," smiled Bjorgo. "However, if she doesn't want Commander Raymond to take the center seat she better show up when called. We can always do it while we do our own in here. That way, rank has its privileges and hers is out of the way, until the next one in four months."
"I like the way you think," Kristian said "I just had mine before my transfer, but if you want to do it again I'm fine with it."
"Every time anyone transfers to a new duty station, the physical is done. My nurses can do them, as well." Bjorgo explained. "It goes by faster than one would expect. That way this Sickbay has your bioreadings on file should you become ill or injured. Matter of fact, I did my own physical this morning, with the aid of Nurse Langley. It was no surprise I passed with flying colors," he chuckled. "Being an Augment has its advantages."
"That it does and I know I'll pass so lets get it done," Kristian replied.
"You bet." He stood up straight from leaning on his desk, walking passed Long to his doorway, looking around the Sickbay. Tore saw who he was seeking. "Charlie," when the nurse looked over he waved her in. She came over and stood in front of her boss just outside his door.
"Yes, Doctor?"
"Charlene Langley, this is Doctor Kristian Long," he moved aside so the woman could see. "Our new ACMO. She needs her physical done so that we all can get the crew finished. You mind giving her the tour?"
"Not at all, Doctor." Charlie came in and shook Long's hand. "A pleasure, Doctor Long. I can show you around, where the labs are, all that. And then, we can knock that physical out, as well." She gave a warm smile.
"And, Kristian, just so you know." smiled Bjorgo. "Charlie here is my head nurse and a PA. That will put her as fourth in charge after us both, and Doctor H'iri."
"That sounds great Charlie," Kristian said "It's a pleasure to meet you," she turned back to Tore "I look forward to working with you. Charlie lead on."
Charley showed Kristian around sick bay and introduced her to several of the staff. Returning to main sick bay a short time later and over to a private room "Have a seat doctor,"
Kristian took a seat while Charlie ran the required scans and asked the various questions. "Well do I pass?"
Charlie nodded "As far as I'm concerned doctor but Doctor Bjorgo has the final say. But your healthy. Let's go take this to the CMO so he can clear you for duty."
Kristian hopped off the bio bed and headed back to the CMO's office.
Bjorgo signed off on Kristian's physical, thanking her for being agreeable about it. As she left he watched her go, liking the new doctor and seeing in her a drive to succeed. The great Julian Bashir had been an Augment, like himself, but more for the intellectual than the physical, which aided the man greatly in his medical profession. McCoy, Crusher, Phlox, Bashir; his list of medical heroes was short but distinguished. Grinning to himself and going back to his desk Tore jumped on his computer to order himself a caracal, the feline species from Risa that were excellent pets and companions.
