Amethyst walked into Sickbay with baby Flora, who was sleeping peacefully in her pushchair. She hadn't seen Doctor Long since the birth of Flora and the subsequent loss of the bark from her skin. She wasn't sure if Kristian was busy so she politely called "Doctor Long are you available?"

Kristian hearing someone call her minimized the report she'd been working on for the CMO, grabbed her lab coat and walked into main sick bay. Seeing Amethyst with the baby she walked over to where they were. "I see the bark is all gone, how are you feeling? And how is little Fera doing?" Kristian asked.

"I'm feeling much better, more like the old me!" Amethyst smiled warmly remembering the early morning's enjoyment with Will. "Flora has settled well at home too I'm happy to say."

"I'm happy to hear that, how is she sleeping and how are you doing? Anything I need to be aware of?" Kristian asked.

"I slept quite well last night apart from the discomfort of having the bark on my body, but I feel a whole better now it's gone. Will helped me to remove the bark this morning." Amethyst smiled. "As for Flora ..." She looked proudly at her little daughter. "She slept a good three hours between feeds last night."

"You can't ask for better than that our of a newborn," Kristian commented "She's going to need some shots in the next couple of weeks. I'm also going to let Commodore Song know that your off duty for four to six weeks."

Amethyst nodded. “Can I still do appointments from home if they’re needed?” She hated the idea of not being able to do her counseling duties.

Kristian thought for a few minutes "Only if absolutely necessary, like I said your off duty for four to six weeks. Enjoy the time with the baby, get her on a schedule and this is a lot for your son to process."

She nodded. “I err ... have a confession to make. Will and I we err ... well we ...” She looked embarrassed. “We made love this morning” she gave Kristian a guilty look. “I know under normal circumstances that wouldn’t be possible but I felt okay and it didn’t hurt.”

"Just don't overdo it, one thing to remember you didn't have a normal birth. But your body had a lot of stress placed on it," Kristian said.

Amethyst nodded. "You're right, I'm sorry I promise I'll give it time for my body to get back to normal. Speaking of which am I ... Normal?" She looked at Kristian curiously. "I don't feel any different with the exception of stronger senses.

"Well let me take a look at you," Kristian said "Have a seat and I'll run some scans. Has all the bark fallen off?"

"I think so" Amethyst nodded. "It just seemed to have dried up and it dropped off pretty easily. Will cleared my back for me. Is it possible it was just some sort of coating to protect my body whilst I was carrying Flora?"

"That's possible," Kristian agreed as she began to run scans "But I'm not seeing any further evidence of bark on your anywhere. I do want you to keep a close eye on things and come see me weekly for a while just so I can make sure everything with you is back to normal."

Amethyst nodded. "I will." She looked at Flora. "Dare I ask? What about Flora? What did her medical scans from birth show is she a Brol hybrid?"

"She is, but the Brol is not enough to worry about. I'll keep a close eye on her as well, she shows more Betazoid than Brol and I firmly believe that's how she'll develop," Kristian said

Amethyst nodded. "Thank you Kristian, you've been a tower of strength for me since you came onboard and I can't thank you enough."

"No need for thanks," Kristian replied "I'm here if you just need to talk. Doctors do take a course in counseling."

"Counseling the Counselor huh?" Amethyst smiled. "I might take you up on that sometime. For now I feel okay."

"I'll be right back, I have something that you might like,"Kristian walked into her office and returned carrying a small plant that made tinkling sounds as she walked. Kristian set the plant on a nearby table and gave one of the leaves a touch causing it to make more tinkling sounds. Each leaf was a different color and in light cast a rainbow of colors "This is native to Amzock only, it cannot be started by a cutting. The only way to get one of theses plants is from Amzock or from someone who has one. I brought several with me and my cousin has several as well. The slightest movement or touch gets them to make a gentle tinkling sound. It's yours. Water it monthly and it will last for years. It's living glass. The windows in the Palace are made from these plants. It's very soothing."

Amethyst couldn't help but marvel at the plant, she also grinned at Flora's reaction as her daughter's eyes followed every movement of the plant near her pram. "It's gorgeous! Thank you so much Kristian! can I arrange to have it transported or moved to my quarters? I don't want to risk damaging it."

"You really can't hurt it," Kristian assured her "But I'll arrange to have it delivered to your quarters. I'd set it on a table until it gets tall enough to set on the floor. They don't grow really fast."

Amethyst nodded. “I’ll put it somewhere safe. I think I’m going to enjoy it as much as Flora!”

"I think you'll all like it, I have a couple in my office and the rest in my quarters, my cousin has one i believe in her office in the lab and she too has more in her quarters. If anyone can figure out how to start one she can. But until that happens we're the only two aboard who have them and now you," Kristian said

“So do you recommend these as a relaxation aide?” Amethyst smiled. “It may come in useful in my office when I get back to work.”

"I never gave that a thought, I just like the sounds and the colors," Kristian said "I have a big one in my quarters."

"Then I'll keep it in my quarters, after all I don't want the crew pestering you for plants!" Amethyst smiled warmly.

"We don't hand them out too often, some try to start cuttings and it kills them or they over water and it kills them. Some even think they know more about them that someone like Tara and I who grew up with them. Just water it monthly between a half to a cup of water, no more until it gets bigger and it will be fine," Kristian replied

"I'll do that" Amethyst nodded her thanks. "Thank you for your help Kristian." With that she headed on her way.
