Post Number 52 Welcoming and Report Status - Mercury RCS

Posted on Sat Oct 10th, 2020 @ 8:11pm by Commodore Cyndi Song & Lieutenant JG Brian Hastings

Mission: Star Base Mercury
Location: Captain's Ready Room
Timeline: Current

[ON]
[Mercury Station - Before USS Amandora Arrival]

Hastings was just about finished with the Mercury computer systems' initial trial and input of the automated RCS thrusters systems. As the Lieutenant, JG was tasked via communications from Commodore Song herself. As the new Amandora Chief of Flight Control, Brian was also charged with ensuring that Mercury Stations Orbital thrusters were optimal and primed.

Varying degrees of measurements were needed to ensure that line of sight transporters, communications networks, galactic horizon measurements were all optimal in operations. Thus Brian had spent the better part of his time awaiting the arrival of the USS Amandora, his new home, working on these systems as his new assignment. This was to be conducted even before Hastings first set foot upon the Amandora as an official officer.

In part, it was a relatively smooth and easy transport to Mercury station via shuttle. Brian had arrived a few days before the Amandora crew had arrived and begun their Departmental Operations.

Lieutenant JG Hastings checked and re-checked diagnostics and output data for minimal station deviances of vector on the Command Level Deck of the Mercury Base. As CONN and FCO, Brian was tasked with calculating and verifying Station XYZ Axis and transmitter beacon network linear integrations.

Thankfully, he was almost complete. Brian was having one last Level II primary scan of the RCS and individual station Alignment Thrusters.

= Status Verification Complete. Mercury Station Attitudinal, RCS Thrusters, Alignment Network operations Nominal. Point of Degree, Coefficient Confidence Factor 0.09998 percentile accuracy. = The Station Main Computer had reported.

"That sounds like you've finally got it aligned." Ensign Oman, a Station Engineer, sighed relief. Oman was an assigned project co-worker on the RCS alignments. He had the terrible task of verifying each RCS unit by visual confirmation, via the Jeffries tube system. Brian was secretly happy that he did not have to partake in that... task!

"We finally got it, aligned, baby!" Hastings laughed. He had smiled in relief and reached up to high-five Ensign Oman.

"If these stations a Rockin.... Don't come a' Dockin!" Oman joked.

"Speaking of which, you speak to Teila down in the Mess Hall?" Hastings asked about Ensign Oman's efforts to woo over one of the Mercury Mess Hall Chefs.

"I think it was good. She gave me a muffin." Oman stated.

"What kind of muffin?" Asked Brian.

"Carrot with Cheesecake Frosting." Oman shrugged. Then she winked. "That mean's something, right?" He asked.

"Of course, that means something!" Hastings turned to look over his padd. The analytics were checking out favorably on the stations XYZ concurrent coordinators.

"It means that Teila gave you the muffin that you had requested." Brian laughed in his Aussie candor.

[USS Amandora - Reporting In]
[Commodore Song's Ready Room]

After beaming aboard, Lieutenant JG Brian Hastings had exited the transporter room II. The ship was busy in full swing of operations, having to set up Mercury. For Brian's part, his project was winding down. He had a full report to hand to the Commodore himself. He was happy that things were relatively smooth.

Reaching the Main Bridge of the Amandora, his eyes fixated on his FCO position, the seat, the computer. Hastings walked to the computer unassuming and then placed his hand on the FCO console side. "How is she doing, mate?" He asked.

The FCO officer had looked up at him and smiled. "Systems are nominal. We are orbiting the Mercury Station in a multivector positional orbit. A few means of transport are being monitored for best possible launches and dockings from the Amandora as we speak." Brian was uncertain about the Officer's name, but the Ensign looked to be enjoying their position.

He nodded in reply, and then he gave flowed from the Main Bridge towards the Commodore's Ready Room. He walked with his report padd, and a second padd containing his transfer orders from the USS Yeager.

Chiming the Commodore's ready room, Lieutenant Brian Hastings was prepared to report.

"Enter," Cyndi called

Entering, he stood at full attention. The FCO, in a sincere Aussie tone, reported in. "Commodore Song," Brian Saluted his respect. He then took a few steps forward and extended his transfer orders on his padd. "Lieutenant JG Brian Hastings, reporting for duty as Chief Flight Control Officer, Ma'am." He stood waiting.

"At ease lieutenant, I don't bite," Cyndi joked as she accepted his transfer orders "Please have a seat."

“Aye, Ma’am.” Hastings stepped forward and took a seat in front of the Commodore’s desk.

"Welcome aboard," Cyndi said as she input his transfer orders into the computer, turning back to face him "Have you had a chance to get acquainted with the ship's specs and do you have any questions for me?"

“Yes, Ma’am.” Hastings in verbatim to memory. “Heavy class cruiser, explorer. A length of 641.52 metres. A substantial beam of 463.73 metres. Height reaching 195.26 metres.” He paused. “A total starship mass of 4.5 million metric tonnes.” However, Brian was more impressed with the Galaxy’s engines. “Her cruising speed is an average of warp 6.8, an emergency warp factor of 9.6 for limited hours. And an extreme running speed of warp 9.8, however, it is unlikely this speed would be achieved for any practical considerations due to outer hull and SFI stressors.” He affirmed.

“Commodore Song, I have dreamed of serving as FCO for a Galaxy Class as long as I can remember.” Hastings smiled. "I have not had access to the Amandora's records. How many times have you completed a saucer separation routine?" He was fascinated.

"I confess we've never done a saucer separation either for real or in simulation," Cyndi replied "The ship is brand new and it never occurred to me to do one."

“Of course, Ma’am.” He replied. “As my report states,” Brian began. “I have completed Mercury station navigational readiness alignments for communications and support crafts. As well, the RCS primary and redundant systems have all tested out and are fully online.” He reported.

Cyndi thought a minute "Since I've never considered doing a simulation or even for real a separation why don't you do a simulation and see how the systems are.

“Sounds like fun.” He smiled enthusiastically. “Er. I mean, right on Capt.” He nodded. “I will check over the countermeasure systems on the holodeck.” He agreed. “I may need to call on a few officers for a mock scenario, see how it goes.” Hastings was enthusiastic about it.

"Take any one you need," Cyndi said "Perhaps once you check things out a drill at some point might be in order"

"Very well Ma'am. I look forward to serving with you and this fine crew." He nodded. He then asked. "Does everything seem in order, may I check in with my station now?" He was anxious.

"Your free to assume your station," Cyndi replied "Dismissed."
