Jackson closed the comm line from Colonel Hasker. He closed his eyes and rubbed them, not happy with what he just heard, but knowing that the orders stood. "Porter to Foster, please report to my office immediately." He closed the line and waited for Foster to arrive. When he did, Porter gestured for Foster to take a seat.

"What's up, cap...uh, lieutenant?" Foster asked, perplexed at Porter's reduction in rank to first lieutenant.

Porter pulled out a set of gold rank bars from his desk and slid them to Foster. "It's not just me. You're demoted to second lieutenant." Before Foster could say anything, Porter held up his hand to stop him. "It's not my decision. In fact, it's not the decision of anyone on this ship. I just got off the line with Colonel Hasker. Per Major General Lewis has temporarily reassigned us to a flight school for special training."

"Special training?" Foster replied. "Sounds like a cover up for something else."

"It may very well be," Porter said, "but he didn't give me any details other than we're to board a shuttle that arrives at 1900 hours tomorrow. Until then, your time is yours to use as you please."

Foster took a deep breath and stood up. "Very well, sir. I'll go gather my personal items and meet you in the shuttlebay at 1900 tomorrow."

Porter simply nodded and let Foster go about his business. After finishing up some things on his computer, Porter got up and headed to his quarters to get ready to leave tomorrow.
