[Holodeck One]
Inside the Holodeck, only the yellow grid lines were showing. The Holodeck was offline for updates, as Damien had locked them out for servicing for Engineering. He had just come back from the Main Computer Core having set up relays, and sensor adaptors that would fully integrate and upload the Holodeck Security and Safeties Protocols changes.
It was no doubt that what occurred with Capt. Hurd was a terrible situation. Saunders had consulted and reviewed with his Engineering Staff. They had come up with some computer LCAR algorithms and new isolinear safeguards that would enact fail-safes if any tampering with the Holodeck Safeties occurred in the future.
While Damien could only do so much from an engineering standpoint, he had needed help from the Chief of Security Lieutenant JG Kelliza Kahn. Her expertise was paramount when it had come to finishing the program alterations for the holodeck safeties grid. Saunders was hoping that when he had requested her presence down on Holodeck One, Kahn would be open to helping him.
Damien was halfway through his LCAR isolinear meta-analysis spanners, connected to a few metallic Engineering Equipment Cases that were strewn on the floor near the Holodeck Archway.
Liza had received the request from Lieutenant Saunders. From what she had read he was a credit to his occupational specialty. Kahn caused her to grin, the symbiote having been an engineer a few times in its many lives. Plus, gold was gold. They were both officers in the Operations Division of Starfleet. Even though, as a department head, Kelliza chose to wear her red mock-neck uniform, with the vest variant so her crimson sleeves were on display. Arriving in the chamber where Saunders was, Liza made her way over. "Hello, Lieutenant. You rang?" She gave a friendly grin.
Damien had turned upward from crouching near the archway access panel. There was already intricate LCAR accessing nodes open and being worked on. "I am glad to see you!" He slapped his hands to his two thighs. "Thank you for arriving promptly Lieutenant Kahn." He was friendly to the help.
"I assume you are aware of what Engineering is working on here?" He asked, standing up now to greet Kelliza.
"I've read briefs, but I could use a bit more information. I am Security Chief, it keeps me busy." She kept her pleasant expression, her tone friendly as she was. "As the saying goes, I'm all ears."
"Alright." He accessed the main computer. "I'd like you to add a sequential protocol for a lock-out in case the computer defines it is being tampered with. The algorithms have already been created. I just need to understand from a security perspective, how to attenuate the Captain and Commander credentials to be recognized, along with yours Lieutenant." He had nodded.
Liza crossed her arms and rubbed her chin. "Not a bad idea. You have a devious mind, Damien." She gave a crooked grin at that. "Perhaps we can work on some kind of algorithm that activates when the ship is threatened internally."
"I don't think I would need a security command included, as Engineering would probably work with re-setting any locked out compromised programs." Saunders explained. No wonder Doctor Bjioro fancied Kahn. She was striking.
Kahn's face was serious, but not overly so. She tilted her head slightly. "By Starfleet standard operating procedures, the chief engineer is always listed as 3rd officer if the Captain has not named one. You are a 'bridge' officer by your very station, and a command officer, at that. You will have your own Security override authorization." It was like she caught herself and blinked a few times. "Apologies, Damien, Kahn kinda ruled the roost there for a moment. He does that now and then." Liza was back, her face now friendly, even as she gave a light blush.
"Your Trill Symbiont." Saunders had remembered. Sometimes he had been engrossed in to his Engineering work that he forgot who he was working with. "Of course, Lieutenant." Saunders paused, and let a friendly smile cross. "No worries." He grinned cheekily.
"I appreciate that." She was still a bit embarrassed by the outburst. "My relationship and co-existence with Kahn is a unique one. Hosts don't often feel their thoughts or emotions like I do with my symbiont. Kahn likes to be heard, and he is stubborn." Liza waved it off with a smile. "Anyway, he wasn't wrong."
"Thank you for reminding me that I am a bridge officer. Too often I'm down in Engineering." Saunders shook his head as he affixed the LCAR back in to the unit. "I've come to notice..." He added. "Most hosts, female hosts of a symbiont. Are all incredibly hot." Damien had laughed, blushing keeping his head to his Padd.
Liza was taken aback by that, but not in a negative way. She gave a big smile. "That, my dear, is all on me. I work hard to look this good. Also, Kahn is a stickler for good looking hosts." She leaned in slightly, giving a whisper. "They tend to have more fun." Straightening up and going back to her normal voice. What's the Human saying; All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy."
Liza got them back on track--kind of. "I'll return to my office and get started on changing the algorithms. I'll work on software, you work on hardware." She gave a nod and grin, making as if to leave when she stopped and looked back over her shoulder. "I'm in the lounge for a drink every night. Just an FYI, Damien." Giving a smile and wink over her shoulder, she then departed.
Having watched the Lieutenant leave, he looked down at his tool kit as he was kneeling by it. He held on to the hyper spanner, and lightly began to toss it in his hand... "Dang!" He grinned to himself. As he then returned to the panel to install the correct component adjuncts to the relays of the holodeck. He would have to drop in some time, definitely.
