Now that the big surprise for the major was over, Alesha had formally met with the fighter pilots. There had been a few comments and questions over her age. Something she knew she'd have to deal with. Now it was time to meet with Major Hurd and see just what was expected of the fighter wing. Walking to the major's office Alesha palmed the door chime and waited.

"Enter!!!", Hurd barked, standing stiffly at attention in front of his desk. His dark red eyes were affixed on the door, awaiting the conversation to come.

Walking in Alesha saluted the major "First Lieutenant Rivers reporting for duty sir,"


Pointing to a chair, Hurd said simply, "Sit". As she did so, Hurd , "So tell me about yourself, your skills, those sorts of things please."

Alesha took the offered seat "I'm 21. Been flying since before I could walk. My dad taught me to fly. There isn't much sir I can't fly. On my home planet we're required to join the military at age 13. After hearing from General Long what Starfleet Marines are like I decided to join. I won't leave anyone behind."

"Commendable", Hurd said nodding his head. Pacing back and forth for a moment, he stopped and turned once again to face her. "So tell me this, and I need to know, how well can you preform danger close fire support, and I mean with as little as 20-25 feet, for example, separating me and my men from a advancing enemy?"

"Twenty five feet to three feet know I'll be there. I've shot a Muskrat and they're less than a foot high. Just when major you think may be lost don't give up on me or the fighters. I didn't get here by being sloppy. Trust me I will protect you, your men and this ship with everything I have," Alesha said "I will not back down and I will not run from danger or an attack. I've been in several battles and have not turned tail and fled."

Cracking a wry smile, Hurd said, "Good, you have fight and determination in you, I like that!!!", he exclaimed. He followed up immediately with another question. "How do you feel about the words surrender, retreat, and fall back?".

"Surrender or retreat is not in my vocabulary, I will never surrender or retreat. Fall back, yes I will fall back," Alesha said

A grin spread across his face, as Hurd said, "I like your attitude."

Alesha smiled as well "Then give me a chance, if you don't like what you see in me or how I'll lead the fighters then you can send me packing. But I'm good and you'll find out. I didn't get this far by being a scardy cat."

Grinning broadly, Hurd extended his hand. "Welcome aboard, and this is your chance". "Our motto here is "Retreat Hell", memorize it."

Alesha stood and took his hand "Thank you sir and no need to memorize it as I don't believe in retreating either. I will withdraw if the situation warrants it but I don't retreat."

"Understood, and again, welcome to the outfit".

"Thank you sir," Alesha replied

Standing rigidly, Hurd saluted and said, "Your are dismissed".

Alesha returned the salute and headed out.
