Post Number 30, Wing Commander Meets Marine XO
Posted on Tue Feb 23rd, 2021 @ 11:16am by Captain Alesha Rivers & 1st Lieutenant Greg Jackson
Mission:
Planet Savai
Location: Marine XOs office
Timeline: Current
Greg placed his head into his hands briefly after finishing speaking to the Marine senior NCOs about the upcoming mission to the Iwo Jima. He glanced over at the terminal and saw only a few minutes to he was officially off the clock but still had one last thing to accomplish. =^=1st Lt Rivers, if you’re free could you report to my office?=^=
Alesha acknowledged the request and after checking on a few things headed for the marine xo's office. Palming the door sensor
“Enter,” Greg said shifting over a PADD to the side of his desk onto the completed side of his desk.
Alesha walked into his office "First Lieutenant Rivers reporting sir," she said saluting "What can I do for you?"
Greg motioned to a chair in front of his desk, "It's Greg please, we hold the same rank after all. Can I get you something, coffee, tea, we're almost off the clock so something stronger?"
Alesha took the offered seat, "And it's Alesha, how about a beer?"
Getting Alesha's drink he set back down at his desk, "Our mission has been changed. The USS Iwo Jima's emergency beacon was detected, she hasn't been heard since the Dominion War. She was assumed lost with all hands including her embarked Marine division, her entire crew was made up of Marines." He pushed over a PADD with the image of the Iwo Jima from the briefing he had gotten from the Major showing the heavily crippled Sovereign class ship. "We have been tasked with investigating the ship and discovering how she ended up out her. It's expected that non of her crew will have survived."
Picking up the PADD Alesha studied the crippled ship "Greg I don't see how anyone could have survived that kind of attack. That ship has more holes in it than Swiss Cheese. But I do know that the Sovereign Class does have some sections that are supposed to be safe from any kind of attack. And we both know an emergency beacon does not activate by itself, someone or something had to activate it. I remember hearing about the Iwo Jima when she went missing, how did she end up out here? What do you need me to do?"
Greg shrugged his shoulders, "At first I'm going to assume the Major will have you flying CAP around both ships the Amandora is going with us. As for how she ended up her we don't know that image was all that was received. The Major says the code it was transmitted on was never broken, but I'm taking that on a grain of salt. As for sections on a Sovereign that are safety areas I'll take any details you have. Amandora's the first ship I've been on that wasn’t merely being used as a convenient means of transportation for my unit." Turning he opened the bottom drawer of his desk pulling out a decanter and a glass pouring himself a measure of bourbon. "After that the Major goes onboard to disable some sort of failsafe device."
"What ever is needed I;m ready,"Alesha said "As for safe places on the ship, sick bay is the safest place on any ship, there is a good size area under sick bay that runs nearly the entire length of that deck. There is also a safe area under the captain's quarters. Those are two areas I remember and both areas have replicators so they won't starve. My mum commanded as Sovereign class for several years, I saw those areas first hand. Both are big enough that you can move around in and walk upright in. But the major going aboard alone I'm not sure I like that idea. He should take someone along."
“The Commodore brought that point up, we’ll see what his final decision is,” Greg said taking a sip of his drink, “He says he has to go alone to disable the security measures. I’ll make sure to send a team to both those areas. That brings me to another point,” he took a deep breath before continuing, “Unless someone has removed or policed the bodies it’s going to be a disaster over there. Any Marine that doesn’t wish to be in the first wave will be excused. I don’t expect hostile resistance and I’m not going to force anyone on what could be a tomb ship. I’ve spoken to the NCOs and they are going to ask for volunteers with the understanding that it will be volunteers, the same goes for the flight group. I might need to borrow a few additional techs to flush out teams in the first group.”
"I've seen dead bodies, I'm not afraid. I'll speak to the pilots and get their views on this, like you I'll not order them to go. They'll have the right to volunteer as well. Should an attack come we'll do what it takes to defend not only this ship but the Iwo Jima, the fighter wing stands ready for what ever is needed of us and those who are not comfortable will be excused," Alesha said "You can use any of the pilots you need."
“For the moment I think it’s going to be more some of your ground crew and their tech skills unless you have any pilots that can fill in with engineering assistance. I’ve got plenty of willing hands but not a ton to start survey work on if the ship is even worth trying to salvage or going to start breaking apart on us. I know Engineering is suppose to provide assistance just not sure how much or if they’re even going to be sent over right away.”
"I do have a couple of pilots who can assist with engineering and I'm trained in combat as are all of the pilots. We're marines as well," Alesha replied "I have them training with the marines as well. Just tell me where you want us."
“If we’re that disparate for additional combat personnel things have gone seriously wrong, when you get a chance forward me the names of your two pilots and any volunteers from your ground crews and I’ll slot them in when we figure out the best way to deploy onto the Iwo Jima. I assume you want the pilots to stay with you for the beginning of the mission as pilots and board with one of the follow up waves?”
"I'll send you the names,"Alesha said "As for the pilots, let's leave it at deploy us when, where or how we can best be used. But I will say that one or two of us should do a fly over of the Iwo Jima to make sure everything is above board and no surprises in space waiting for us."
“I agree but that’s up to the Major, I will bring up the idea to him,” Greg replied, “Anything else we need to go over?”
"Not that I can think of," Alesha replied "It's good to finally meet."
