James realized that he still needed to see the Ship's Counselor, according to Starflleet regulations, as did anyone who just transferred from another ship. Now was a good a time as any.

Tapping his Comm "Lt. Amethyst Raymond this is Lt. James McTavish, I believe we need to have a chat at your convenience of course."

Amethyst was back in her office going over the personnel files when McTavish’s voice came over the comms. “I’m in my office now if you’d like to drop by Lieutenant.”

"Thank you Counselor, I'm on my way" James responded as he grabbed his PADD, which had the Ship's layout on it, and proceeded to her office. When he was at the Counselor's door he pushed the chime and waited for a reply.

Amethyst looked up. “Come in Lieutenant”

As the door opened Amethyst pushed her PADD aside and stood to greet McTavish. “Welcome aboard, please feel free to take a seat. Would you like anything to drink?”

James walked up to her desk "Thank you Counselor, I'm happy to be here" then proceeded to take a seat "No I'm fine but thank you anyway."

Amethyst nodded. “So you've just joined us? I’m afraid your file hasn’t come across my desk yet so I’m going to have to rely on you for information.” She smiled a wry smile. “Are you settling in alright?”

James sat for a moment collecting his thoughts "Yes, I just came over yesterday from the USS Dunkirk where I served as the ACSO for the past seven years. I'm getting fairly well settled but will be better when my wife, Heather finally is here with me."

“Of course, that’s the downside of Federation life being separated from loved ones. Have you been serving together or have you been apart?”

"We have been serving on the same Ship. Actually we met on the Dunkirk, then courted, and about 2 years ago we were married. She is a Biologist and is transferring here in the same capacity as well; that is after she finishes the Research for the Starfleet Brass which hopefully will be soon.

Amethyst nodded. “So tell me more about you, would you consider yourself to be someone whose easy to work with? Or would you say you’re more of a taskmaster?” She smiled.

"I'm pretty easy to work with and I get along with most everyone. I seem to have the ability to be able to navigate different personality types quite well." he replied "As for more about myself; I take my duties very seriously and have great respect for those in command over me. Also I try to follow through on anything that involves my Department. After pausing for a few moments thinking on what else may be pertinent to the conversation "A few months ago I completed a course of study, which I had been working on for a few of years, which gave me a rating of F.S.S.; that is to say a rating which recognizes me as a Fellow of Space Sciences. The added education will help me to be the best CSO that I can be; and that's about it for me." James concluded trying not to be too long winded; but the Counselor did ask.

“Excellent” Amethyst made notes on a spare PADD. “I’m just making notes so I can update your file when it arrives, it shouldn’t be too long sometimes it just gets delayed.” She smiled warmly. “I take it you cope well under pressure? Are there any times that you’ve struggled?”

James had to think on that one for a few moments "Yes, I believe I do cope well under pressure. We all struggle from time to time; but mostly it was when I was on my first ship, fresh out of the Academy. Just getting used to the Ship's routine took some time. Honestly now, I would say rarely that is not to say that It doesn't or won't happen" he explained.

Amethyst nodded. “I appreciate your honesty. I don’t have set questions for these evaluations, I tend to go with a varied routine but from what I’ve heard so far I’m happy to clear you for duty.”

"Thank you Counselor, I appreciate it. Being cleared for duty is a good thing; of course that means I'll actually have to go to work now" James responded with a chuckle.

“Always happy to help” Amethyst grinned. “It’s been nice meeting and getting to know you. Before you go do you have any questions that need answering?”

"None that I can think of at the moment" he replied "It was nice meeting you also Counselor and thank you for your time; have a pleasant day"

With that James stood and made his way to the Lift "Deck 5" he announced and soon he was on his way back to his Quarters.
