Kalos and Ellie Kees quickly hunkered into his abode which had a wonderful view of the city. We're this Earth one might think it was New York or some other metropolis.
"These storms are very dangerous this time of year. The dragons are in heat and cause extensive winds to form resulting in a storm of this nature." Kalos told Ellie.
Ellie listened curiously. She wasn’t sure whether she should really explain the truth or not, surely it wouldn’t be considered interference. “Actually ... the storms aren’t caused by dragons.” She smiled warmly. “They’re caused by what we call, atmospheric conditions. Storms form when conditions are just right.”
Kalos paused as he seemed perplexed but open to what Ellie said.
" Before the Wizards War all of this world was one . The land masses were all joined. Here this is ganja, a fruit that were make into a drink. Be careful it can be potent.' Kalos replied as he poured to cups.
Ellie nodded as she picked up her cup and took a small sip. It made her cough and she smiled, “Wow! That is potent! I like it though.”
Kalos then handed her what were basically Scalia cashews. " Eat these and drink more ganja. It will give you more of a rush."
Ellie grinned and did just that, she had to admit the rush was a pleasant one rather than unpleasant.
Kalos pointed out the window as a tornado passed under the floating land mass.
" A spectral anomali will follow these rains. A promise the Wizards made to keep the dragons from attacking the city." he said referring to a rain bow in the far distance.
Ellie nodded, she could see that trying to explain weather patterns would be a long drawn out process and she wasn’t sure if she should interfere in the beliefs of another culture anyway.
"When I was a bit a friend was playing near the ledge of the city. A feline had some how made it up here. Her seductive cries lured my friend to his death. I have never trusted felines since," Kalos told Ellie.
“Was it truly a callous act or was it simply that the feline was looking for help? It may have been a misunderstanding.” She looked at Kalos curiously.
" Dear Ellie they are Furs. Savaged Furs. They have no souls only instinct. That Fur lured my friend to his death." Kalos replied.
A ring on his device pulled his attention.
" We will be right there." Kalos told the person on the screen. " THE storm damaged the next land forms crystals. The land form has collapsed and a number of our people are injured . All souls are being asked to help. Stay here but I have to go."
The magnetic field under the land mass lost too many crystals causing an instability in the magnetic constant of the land mass. Causing it to fall from the sky.
“Wait I’ll come with you” Ellie followed Kalos. “I’m a Starfleet Officer, we help it’s what we do.” She offered a warm smile. She also wanted to scan the area and see if she could find out what had really happened.
Kalos and she ran to the nearest skiff and proceeded down to the surface.
" What evil has done all this. " as flames and smoke and mud filled their view. A platoon of troops set up perimeter to keep the wild Furs away but in the distance several Furs could be seen .
" There are Furs have your troops pick them off," Kalos yelled to the leader of the platoon ship.
Ellie walked around waiting for a quiet moment to pull out her tricorder and see what the readings of the area were. She frowned as she read what was coming through, it seemed the magnetic fields in the area had changed. Question was, why?
Readings also indicated large explosions that had ripped away large chunks of the magnetic crystals which helped the land masses to levitate.
" They are pulling out people out of the rubble" yelled the Chief.
" The Furs? Impossible," replied Kalos.
“Perhaps not, they’re trying to help you!” Ellie took the moment to prove her point and moved closer to help.
One of the Furs assisted her pulling people out of the rubble .
" The children are safe," the Fur told Ellie. The Fur then joined her. " Why would two legs blow up their own island? We saw them blow up the crystals."
“They blew them up!?” Ellie looked shocked and surprised, there was more going on here than there appeared. “They’ve been telling me that your people are to blame for violence against them.”
" Can you read minds? How do you know their minds?" Kalos replied. " The Fur are animals and beasts."
“Is it true?” Ellie looked at Kalos. “Did your people blow up the crystals themselves?”
" No that is insane. The islands are our homes, our right. The low lands are for the Furs and lower life forms," Kalos replied.
“Well there’s something going on here, something that needs careful investigation.” She gave both sides a glance. “Would you be willing to work together?”
" With you of course. The Furs are not trust worthy."
Ellie sighed she couldn’t force the two sides to work together. “Then I will have to split myself between both sides, I will work as a go between, someone who mediates between two factions.”
" The priority is to save our people. Ask your...friends to leave this area. That would help." Kalos replied.
“They are helping to save your people! Time is of the essence or do you want deaths?” Ellie glared at Kalos.
Kalos nodded, " Let them help."
The Furs pulled more out than any others as they could dig quicker. Fortunately the fall had been a solid downward one.
One of the Furs lay with three children to allow them to sleep bringing a tear to Kalos youthful eyes.
" I never imagined them being civil." Kalos added.
" We will begin a survey and if someone caused this they will pay dearly.'
