Now shoreleave was officially underway T’Mia couldn’t help but wonder exactly what she was going to do for the month! She didn’t have anyone to spend her time with, she smiled to herself as she recalled what Lieutenant Jackson had offered last time they met. Making her way to where the crew were disembarking, her bag over her shoulder she hoped to catch sight of him.
Greg kept an eye on the file of Marines heading out for shore leave as he spoke to one of the platoon Sargent’s, glancing over he caught a glance of T’Mia, “Keep an eye on them and make sure they don’t have too much fun. The Major is in a rare mood and I’m not sure I can keep him from throwing the book at someone that gets into trouble with the locals.”
“Will do, the squad leaders have been told as much but I’ll make sure to tell them again,” the Sargent replied with a nod, “Enjoy your shore leave, sir.”
Greg nodded his head, “Thanks.” He made his way over to T’Mia, “How have you been T’Mia,” he asked with a smile.
“Fine, thank you” T’Mia smiled warmly. “Glad to be getting some shoreleave, Actually I was wondering if you’d like to go for that drink you mentioned last time we talked?”
“Sounds good,” Greg replied, “I don’t have anything planned for a few more hours until I head down to Earth.”
“Wonderful” T’Mia smiled warmly. “Do you have family on a Earth?”
“I do, was born and raised on Earth,” Greg replied with a smile, “However the folks are off enjoying a cruise so won’t be seeing them during this visit.”
T’Mia nodded. “I usually just stay aboard ship, or get a room off ship on the station for the duration. I don’t find it much fun going anywhere alone.”
“Earth is nice was planning on either going to New Orleans, or spending some time in the Smokey Mountains,” Greg replied glancing off in the distance toward where Earth was, “Not sure which one yet.” He glanced back toward T’Mia, “Any suggestions?”
“I’ve never been to either, so if you’d like some company the Smokey Mountains sounds lovely!” T’Mia smiled a warm smile. “I don’t want to impose though so if you’d prefer to be alone just say so.”
“Cabin in the Smokey mountains, it is,” Greg replied with a smile, “You’re not imposing in the slightest.” He turned and offered his arm, “Now if my somewhat hazy memory of this place is correct last time I left they had a nice little bar down about three decks. Run by a retired Marine if I recall correctly.”
T’Mia grinned and took hold of Greg’s arm. “Indeed there is, I’m not sure if it’s open yet though. If not then the crew lounge?”
“Crew lounge is fine by me,” Greg said turning his head to get his bearings, “Only been on Mars Station once, and not completely sober at that.”
“I’ve only been here in passing so it was just a brief visit, it’ll be something of a change to actually go aboard and spend time. I’m more looking forward to getting down to Earth.”
“Have you spent much time on Earth,” Greg asked making his way deeper into the station, “I’ve only been back once on an assignment to take command of a training platoon.”
T’Mia shook her head. “I’ve only been on the planet a handful of times, never really toured around much. I do like Scotland, all that scenery it’s beautiful.”
“Rains a lot over in Scotland,” Greg replied spotting the turn off for the crew lounge, “The Smokey Mountains are different higher then the Scottish Highlands but not high enough like the Rockies to have snow on the peaks all the time. Also lots of trees, almost every picture I’ve seen on Scotland has a lack of trees.”
“Depends on where you go” T’Mia smiled. “I like the sound of the Smokey Mountains, it’d be nice to go somewhere I haven’t been before.”
“It’ll be a fun trip, lots to see and experience,” Greg said pulling out a chair at a table in the crew lounge, “Plenty of nature, I confuse I typically just stay in the cabin and decompress maybe take a hike or go to the lake.”
T’Mia took a seat and smiled. “That sounds lovely. That’s provided you don’t mind if I tag along?”
“Wouldn’t have brought it up if I didn’t mind the company,” Alister said plugging in an order for a Pepsi for her and a sweet tea for him.
“Wonderful” T’Mia smiled the biggest smile yet. “It’ll be nice to get away from the ship for a while.”
“Been the longest I’ve been on a single starship,” Greg replied taking a sip of his drink. “So anywhere else on Earth you want to see? Not like we can’t take a transporter anywhere on the planet.”
T’Mia paused before nodding. “Niagara Falls! I’ve heard so much about it, I’ve just never seen it.”
Greg nodded before glancing up and doing some quick math in his head, “Well in that case let’s head out now and go the Falls, should be just about day time on that part of the globe and we can watch the sunrise.”
T’Mia nodded. “Sounds wonderful to me! I have a bag packed ready to go. I wasn’t sure if I’d be going off ship or not but I packed one anyway.” She grinned. “Good job I travel light.”
“Alright let’s go,” Alister said returning her smile.
