Post Number 18 A polite conversation

Mission: Weapon Investigating
Location: School/Nursery
Timeline: Current

Christina was sitting in the classroom of the newly refurbished ship's school and nursery. Given her own pregnancy she was having to try and locate a replacement teacher for the period of her maternity leave, which wasn't for another 6 months or so yet. Tapping the comms she called on Commodore Song.

=^= Hurd to Commodore Song, may I speak with you at the school please? =^=

Tapping her com-badge "On my way," Cyndi responded as she set her knitting down. With Ellie expecting triplets Cyndi wanted to do something special for her.

Cyndi arrived at the school a short time later, walking in "Hi Christina, what can I do for you?"

"Please take a seat Commodore" Christina smiled. "I don't know if my husband told you, but I'm six weeks pregnant." She offered a smile. "While I've got plenty of time I'm organizing cover for the school for when I'm on maternity leave. Though I'll still be onboard ship."

"No the major never told me," Cyndi replied taking a seat "But then in all fairness I've not been in command until a week ago. Are you going to need larger quarters?"

Christina offered a smile. "If you have family quarters available then yes please, it would give us more room once the baby arrives."

"Not family quarters but I do have several with more than one bedroom or larger ones where a partition could easily be put in to make another bedroom. Let me talk to headquarters and see if there is a substitute they can send. I do still hold my teaching certificate," Cyndi commented.

"Really?" Christina looked at Cyndi curiously. "If you can spare any time to help out when it's needed then it would be a great help. I do have one or two other parents aboard that have volunteered help whenever it's needed. As regards quarters just larger ones with a partition would be fine, thank you."

"I'll see what I can do as far as teaching, my ship does come first and I'll get on larger quarters for you," Cyndi said "I keep my teaching certificate up to date as I did teach at the academy before I got this command."

"That's one reason why I keep my counseling skills up-to-date as well as my teaching ones" Christina smiled. "It also comes in useful with the children."

"I'm bound by regulations to ask if your counseling license and teaching certificates are up to date and if Doctors Bjorgo and Long are aware your certified in counseling," Cyndi asked If so make sure they have copies, I don't want you to get in hot water for practicing with out a proper license. Just like my weapons permission I have to keep that up and qualify quarterly."

Christina nodded. “All of my qualifications, certificates and my license are up to date Commodore, I made sure of that when Amethyst first requested me here.”

"Then make sure you get copies to myself and to Doctors Bjorgo and Long," Cyndi reminded her "You said you had parents who offered to help when your down on maternity leave. How many have offered to help? As I said I'll do what I can between shifts."

"I've had offers from two who said they'd volunteer if I ever needed the help." Chrissy smiled. "I'm sure there would be others if I made an open appeal."

"I have an idea too, several of my officers would more than likely be willing to speak to the children and explain what it is they do," Cyndi suggested "And don't forget to get copies of your licenses to Doctors Bjorgo and Long."

"Of course, and I will arrange for visits for crew members willing to speak to the children once everyone is settled." Christina smiled warmly.

"That works for me," Cyndi replied "Let me know when you go off on leave."

Christina smiled. “Of course Captain, There’s plenty of time yet which is a blessing in itself.”

Cyndi nodded "I worked up until the day I had my son, then I took six weeks off and went home."

“I will endeavor to work for as long as I can, I’m aiming to reduce hours rather than stop working all together.” Christina smiled.

"That's all I needed to know," Cyndi said getting to her feet. "I'll let you get back to work. Please keep me posted on things."

Cyndi headed out, she now had a fourth baby afghan to make. It had been a long time since she'd done any knitting and was looking forward to it.
