Mission:
Zaris Three
Location: Shuttle - Thanos V
Timeline: Current
OFF: Posting for First Lieutenant Tracy West
ON:
Hurd held on to the crossbar with one hand, his other hand resting on the butt of his .45 as the shuttle maneuvered into position over the top of the building. As planned, the attack on the ground from two fronts was occupying the hostiles enough that they hadn't been able to prep their anti-aircraft weapons. He didn't know how long that would last but he had to trust that West and Winston had considered that as part of their offensive. It wouldn't do any good to rescue the hostages if their escape shuttle got shot out of the sky.
Once in position, the six marines tossed rappelling ropes over the side and jumped out onto the roof, weapons at the ready, and fanned out to form a defensive perimeter. Hurd motioned them toward a series of vents, both to gain cover and to look for a way in.
[[Thanos V - Northern Front]]
Trace had to yell to be heard over the din. "Radio Winston! We need the Southern anti-aircraft guns taken out now! Jenkins!" He shouted, as the marine turned to him after firing a couple of rifle blasts. "Grab three or four men and follow me!" He shouted, and headed out toward the Northeast.
It didn't take them long to find the anti-aircraft pulse rifles on the Northern end of the compound. West switched to hand signals and directed two men to approach from the East and West, respectively, while he and Jenkins went straight up the center. West crept up behind one of the hostiles and took him down with a short stun blast, continuing up the stairs to the gun itself. Jenkins planted the charges while the other two of their small squad took down two more guards. Once placed, they faded back into the tree line and detonated the charges. He just hoped Winston was doing the same on the South end.
[[Thanos V - Roof]]
Hurd and his men had met no resistance on the roof where they found a ventilation shaft and got into position to enter the compound. The sound of thudding boots caused Hurd to hold up his fist to signal for them to wait, but they quickly passed. Clearly the diversion was doing what it was intended to do: clear out the compound. Silently, they dropped down into a corridor and fanned out. Now all they had to do was find the hostages and get out.
Off: Tagsies to Hurd]
