#65 Preparation

As was her way, Kirk was in the main shuttle bay, seeing to the USS Euphrates. If they were to travel for an extended time then she small starship needed a good once over. Jim ran a level 4 diagnostic and any anomalies detected were dealt with quickly and efficiently. Sure, she could make adequate repairs for certain situations, but anything too in depth would give her pause. On Rigo IV one learned self-sifficiency early in life, for no one on Rigo had any time for slouches. Being able to survive and move forward by your own merits was to be expected, and when trouble came that one could not deal with alone, then the entire colony would come to your aid, if need be. As her grandfather had told her years ago; "You are a victim of only three things in your life. Your own ignorance, your own pride/selfishness, and your own bad decisions/choices. Other than that, no one was a victim as far as whining went."

Kirk had lived by that philosophy throughout her life. If you were always looking for someone else to blame for your own bad choices, as if it was THEIR fault, not yours, was assinine in the extreme. There had been times in her life when she had done just that, but after thinking on each situation she came to understand that SHE had chosen to do this or that, not the other person. So, all blame rested solely on HER shoulders, no one else was to blame.

With all that in mind Jim continued to see to the Euphrates. The beautiful thing about Danube class runabouts was that they were considered starships in their own right. As small as they were they did pack a considerable punch, and could take quite a beating before coming apart at the seams. Resch's request to use it now made more sense. Another part of Kirk letting go of her pride and taking the advice of others to heart. Delta 5 was her shuttle of choice, having seen to 5's maintenance and needs personally, and adding a few modifications. But, USS Euphrates would put her in the title of 'captain', since it was a starship and she would be the one checking it out for use. It was on her to bring the starship back in the same condition it was in before she left. Her mind thinking on all these things while working, Kirk continued.
