Trace grunted as he lifted the free wights again, this set going for weight over reps. Williams stood over him as his spotter, but the two men were silent as West worked out.

On his desk in his office was the marine rank of Captain. He had received it for his actions on the Nanclus, in support of Commander O'Connell. Trouble was, he didn't feel any different and, more importantly, he didn't feel like he deserved it. He was just doing his job.

But then, maybe that was the secret of advancement. He had commanded marines in the field for over twenty years, sending men and women into harm's way, having more successes than failures, so commanding the boarding party didn't seem above and beyond in any way.

Still, Captain West had to acknowledge what a rank increase meant. It wasn't just for him, it was for those around him as well, and perhaps, when all was said and done, that was the point of being a leader.

He grunted one last time as he set the weights back where they went.

"Thank you Williams." He said, grinning.

"You bet, Captain." Williams said, grinning back.
