#126 Being Number One

Mission: BUGS OH NO!!
Location: quarters
Timeline: current

ON:

Ro Green sat in her quarters at her work desk. She had been going over reports from the Alpha shift this morning. Between Dorox and Thoros the Amandora's engines and propulsion systems had just scored one hundred and fifteen percent on the post-overhaul testing. That was outstanding. Amandora had her mojo back, and then some. Power allocation was at an all-time premium, as well. Having once been a chief engineer herself Green always felt a touch of pride when stats like this were presented to her. If not for the Operations Division of Starfleet the fleet would not be able to accomplish much and that caused her to grin to herself. She had been dying to go and meet Nira's daughter in a more presentable fashion, but the ship and her duties came first, especially with Amandora ready to leave port.

Noting that the new contingent of marines had also come aboard she was glad to see it. Hurd really needed this to get his ass back in the game. He had been riding the bench too long and needed to show he could still linebacker with the rest of his grunts. The report she was reading, currently, was from an NCO. A Corporal Jackson Barnes. What? She had to re-read the name, and it stayed the same. That piqued her curiosity as she had served with Colonel Jack Barnes back when she was a CEO. Could it be? Reaching out to her computer Ro tapped keys and brought up personnel files, and after a scan of the marine's file cracked a grin. Sure enough, this Jackson Barnes was the son of one Colonel Barnes. She liked how Jack had done that, naming his progeny Jack-son, similar to how the Norse cultures named their children. She even giggled to herself, that tiny bit of information and familiarity bringing a positive feeling to her soul. The galaxy was not so big after all.

After she got back on track she read the report from the marine, stating that the berth was squared away and ready. She knew that West and Hurd were still conferring about the disposition of the unit so having the NCO stand the OOD (Officer Of the Deck) position made sense until they had their ducks in a row. Good, one less worry for herself and Song, knowing the marines were prepped and ready for any action they were called to perform.

Handing Strategic Operations to Kirk had been a good idea. It provided Green the opportunity to breathe and take time with reports, rather than feeling rushed due to time constraints. Before she had sat down for the daily report grind Ro had been in meditation for two hours, letting the Core carry her mind and spirit wherever it would. Deep within her center there was sadness at having had to kill Jynxza, knowing that taking a life stained her spirit. A dark spot in her light she would have to keep under control for the rest of her days. When one killed there was a rush of power, of conquest, and that was not something the Meji Order needed to hold up high. Always, seeking a peaceful solution should come first. Fear leads to anger, anger leads to hate, and hate leads to suffering.

Going further through reports she came upon a maintenance missive from Cadet Ainkara and maintenance team 2, assigned by Dorox. They had seen to the transporters, and the lateral sensor arrays. Check, she thought. She was glad to see the Cadet was as devoted as she had made out to be. Once finished with the reports Green got up and stretched, straightened her uniform, and left her quarters, heading for the main lounge.
