Mission:
BUGS OH NO!!
Location: Planet Surface
Timeline: Current
ON:
Tara had checked out a shuttle, packed several field kits, sample containers and a tri-coder. Kristian had gone on ahead to check to see if any of the colonists needed medical attention. After a flight check and permission to launch Tara lifted off and headed out into space, It didn’t take long to reach the planet surface. Touching down near the settlement Herculoid shut down the shuttle’s engines, grabbed her equipment, lowered the ramp and stepped onto the surface. It was a good thing she’d worn shorts and a tank top, and tennis shoes they were still regulation as it was warm. The air was a little on the humid side and had a fresh scent to it. A light breeze blew every so often, shielding her eyes Tara looked up at the sky, it was a deep blue almost purple and several fluffy, white clouds drifted overhead, the sun was bright yellow.
Not wanting to interact yet with the people who lived here Tara opened her tri-coder and set off to explore and to collect samples of the soil, various small plants. Coming up to the edge of a creek she followed it and soon it opened up to show a large lake with mountains off in the distance. Pulling out several sample vials she knelt and took some water samples along with some water that contained several small pebbles and even some sand from the bottom of both the creek and the lake and took care to label each sample she’d taken and where it had come from. Putting her hand in the water of the lake Tara found it to be refreshingly cool. Getting to her feet she followed the lake bed for sometime when she heard what sounded like a waterfall. Pulling out her tri-coder again she scanned the area and in a few minutes came across a large waterfall that was not far from the settlement. Since there had been a report of an issue with the irrigation pipes this gave her an idea. Harness the power of the waterfall and they’d have all the water they’d need for irrigation not to mention enough power to power the settlement for years to come. Her own planet had harnessed the power of a waterfall and it provided power, and water for a city. This one was slightly smaller but still powerful enough to do the job that she was sure of.
Tara scanned the waterfall and surrounding area and nodded, there was a cave, following the readings it didn’t take her long to locate the cave, it was partly hidden and the only way into it was through the water. This gave her another idea as they’d need a place to house the equipment needed to run the power source and irrigation. The readings showed that the cave was large enough and that was all she needed to see.
Next move was to convince this mayor Bachman that this would work. People were skeptical of this kind of thing and that was normal, Tara knew it would work and she could teach them how to maintain the equipment. Tara spent the next several hours taking readings and samples, finally it was time to return to the shuttle.
