{Deck 2 - Quarters}

Commander O'Connell woke early, showered, and dressed for the day. Looking over and seeing Heather still sleeping Jamie smiled and tip toed out to the living area. The first order of business was to put the coffee pot on.

Sitting at his desk, Jamie keyed in his access code to bring up Engineering Specs for the Galaxy Class Star Ship. By the time he had finished, the coffee was ready so he went and made himself a cup.

Returning with the 'must part' of his day, Jamie started going through the Specs while concentrating on the engine room. As he went through the documents things began to return to his memory concerning the finer points of Engineering; which was a welcome relief.

While concentrating on the reading he heard a welcome voice "Good morning sweetheart" Heather greeted as she walked over and gave him a kiss "What'ya studying" she asked while looking at the screen which put a smile on her face seeing Jamie getting back to his second love; her being the first of course.

"Good morning my love, just trying to reeducate myself" he replied with a grin, then he returned her kiss.

Heather became a little serious "Do me a favor....don't take on so much you end up burning yourself out. I want you around for a long, long time to come."

Jamie smiled "Not to worry I know my limits....my plan is to Segway myself out of Security all together during the next six months. I do have a great Second in Security so she'll be operating the department on a day to day basis; I'll just check in on her probably once a week" he explained.

Heather smiled "I should have known you'd come up with a plan Commander" she replied.

Looking at the time "I should get going, I wouldn't want to late on my first day" he stated with a chuckle which caused Heather to just roll her eyes before giving her a kiss goodbye.

{Deck 36 - Engineering}

Commander O'Connell walked into Main Engineering, pausing for a moment, feeling a sense of dejavu when he heard "Commander on deck."

Walking into the middle of the room "At ease everyone. Please gather around I have an announcement to make" he ordered.
"As you all know Lt. Dorox has left the Ship and has informed Command that we won't be returning. That be said, as of nineteen hundred yesterday, Commander Green asked me to be your new Chief which obviously I accepted. I'm sure you all know who I am, but in case you've been living under a rock I'm Commander Jamie O'Connell." then he heard some chuckles coming from the Staff.

Then he heard someone say "Welcome Chief, nice to have you working with us" as the group broke into a round of applause.

A surprised Jamie commented "Thank you for such a warm welcome. I look forward working with each and everyone of you; some of you I already know and the others I will get to know in the next several weeks so please bear with me. As far as orders go, I only have one for now....teamwork....work together as a team to solve problems, discuss options, etc. That's really all I have for now; are there any questions before I let you get back to work."

A hand went up in the back "Yes Ensign."

"Commander with respect I was wondering, and I'm sure everyone else is too, what background do you have in Engineering" she queried hoping she hadn't said the wrong thing.

Jamie smiled "Ensign that's a fair question. I spent four years at the Academy and fourteen years in Engineering on a few different Class Ships. Two years I was the CEO before accepting a promotion to XO on my last assignment. So this isn't my first rodeo, as they say. Any other question?" as he heard a few chuckle. Scanning the group no one else raised their hands.

"Good, but if you do have any questions my Office door is always open so please don't be afraid to ask or if you need someone to talk to as well. That's all I have. I'll be in my Office going through, most likely, a ton of reports. Dismissed.

Everyone went back to their duties as Jamie smiled to himself then turned and went into his office to tackle those reports.
