#3 A New Day

Mission:
Vanished
Location: Bridge
Timeline: current
ON:
Green, happy as could be after spending a warm, comfortable, and loving night with her beau, arrived on the Bridge by way of the starboard lift. Matching her arrival were Kirk and Resch from the aft lift. Ro, a new pep in her step, came and sat down in her chair. "Good morning, Commodore." She said as she sat down and pulled out her XO PADD from its slot.
Kirk and Resch went to their stations, which Kirk was glad for. Sitting forward, closer to the window and viewscreen, put many of the brighter lights behind her. Her eyes were still being bothered by the illumination in this reality. Back home it was much more subdued and shadowed. Hypertension was building, her headache becoming a reality for covering all that she was becoming; Jamie T. Kirk in this Universe.
"Good morning commander," Cyndi greeted "How is Dwight settling in?"
Ro gave a giggle. "He 's nervous, I can tell, but he tries to play it off. I suggested he simply walk the ship and explore his new surroundings. Also, I created him a uniform with no regalia other than the combadge. It seemed to put him at ease to have clothing similar to many others. Plus, it makes him look that much better, all dressed up.
"That makes sense and this is new for him. Walking the ship will help him get use to it and where things are," Cyndi agreed
As for Kirk, her anxiety had risen. She had failed to remember who the XO of this ship was. In her reality Empress Rogue was the only leader of the Terran Empire to rule for over a decade before being assassinated and succeeded. With her strange powers and strange weapons she had made herself unstoppable. To fail her was a death sentence. To disobey orders, the same. Then, add to that her marriage and partnership with Doctor Dwight Bachman, a man who held no mercy for those the Empress commanded to be killed. His experiments and scientific achievements had thrust the Terran Empire back to the top, and why she herself had gone to Bachman over her current experiment to take over this body in this reality.
Resch, for his part, sat and did his job, occasionally glancing over at Kirk. His eyes did catch a hint of skin below Kirk's vest line, along the waist. Not wanting to draw attention to his own eyes wandering her body he looked away to avoid detection. But, he kept glancing over, and when Kirk lifted her left arm to tap her console the vest did ride up about an inch when she had to stretch her arm more to reach the top of her console. That was bare flesh, for sure, yet her top looked to be normal. He left it alone as he did not know how that was possible, and could see the vest hid whatever the secret was.
Green was still grinning, but had to put forth an idea. "Cyndi, would you consider allowing Dwight to serve in the Diplomatic department. With his casual attitude and friendly stance I think it would be a bonus for them. That, and he would have something to do along the same lines as being a planetary governor. We could talk to Tara about it if you agree."
"I think that would be a good idea, help him fit in. In fact Paul is considering about the possibility of helping out in engineering as he does have a background in it," Cyndi replied.
"I'll talk to Dwight and see what he thinks," said Green. "Should be a boon. I can tell he hates to sit idle." Then, out of nowhere Green could feel a fearful anxiety. She kept her face and body language absolutely normal, not giving any tells she felt it. After a moment of Sensing her surroundings with the Force it centered the tremors on Kirk, of all people. Curious, she thought.
Cyndi nodded "Speak to Herculoid as well. No one likes to sit idle and if he does want to work in the Diplomatic department it will give him purpose and something to do. I'm all for it."
"Thank you, Commodore, I appreciate the support on this," Green responded. With that topic addressed she had to ask. "So, no new orders from Starfleet? Just back to patrolling?"
"No orders as of this morning but we both know how fast that can change so we''re just on patrol. I even told helm to indulge themselves," Cyndi said.
Rogue gave a chuckle, looking forward on the Bridge. "You hear that, Kirk? You get to play."
Kirk spun her chair halfway, to look back, squinting as she did so. "Aye, Sir. Before I relieved the Gamma pilot I was informed. So, we're going thataway." Her right arm came up and pointed at the window behind her, to her right, as she was turned. Her left side was to the center Bridge and her two commanding officers.
"Lieutenant is something wrong with your uniform?" Cyndi asked.
As the Commodore asked her question Green had noted the squinting of the eyes, and could feel that Kirk was in pain. Mild, but there. Then, with the Force, she caught a bit of anxiety from Resch, and that was when she noticed he kept stealing glances at Kirk, and trying to act like he was not. Ro looked directly into Kirk's eyes which caused the younger woman to flinch inwardly, as if afraid of her. "Answer the question, Lieutenant. Also, you look to be in pain. Explain yourself."
Kirk, now knowing she was caught, turned her chair all the way to facing the command chairs, standing up proudly with her hips striking a sassy pose. "I was hot this morning so I went with something more...casual." She unzipped her vest and pulled it open, holding the flaps out like wings, proudly displaying her midriff and the athletic body beneath. No one said anything even as several pairs of eyes bugged out at what they saw. "As for pain," explained Kirk, letting go of the flaps for the vest but not zipping back up. "Yes. I pushed myself too hard in the gym last night and have a headache because of it. Happy?"
Green stood up, placing her PADD on her seat, but she said nothing, waiting to see what Song had to say about this sudden change of attitude in their officer.
"You have ten minutes to go put on your proper uniform and you need to change that attitude as well. Is that clear?" Cyndi said
~Do as they say or suffer~ Kirk heard that in her mind, her alter ego now back. Looking abashed Kirk gave a nod as she quickly pulled her vest together and zipped it up. "Yes, Sirs. Apologies, I've been...distracted, lately."
"Go change and then report to Sickbay," Green ordered. "I have noticed you've been pushing yourself. No Sickbay visit means no more duty, and confinement to quarters until further notice. Is that clear?"
"Crystal, Commander." Kirk replied.
"Dismissed," said Green as she waved in a relief for Kirk, then watched Jim leave the Bridge via the starboard lift.
"That's not like her, any idea what's wrong?" Cyndi asked.
Cyndi knew about the Force, as Green had explained it as best she could to her friend and Commanding Officer. "She is fearful. I sense it in her, a dread of sorts. Subtle, but constant. And, for whatever reason, that fear seems to get more intense around me. She and I are friends so it confuses me as to why." Ro looked at Cyndi. "I'll speak to her and see if I can find out."
"Go talk to her and take security with you, this isn't like her we both know that,"Cyndi said.
"I'll do so, thank you, Commodore." Green left her PADD sitting on her seat as she left the command deck, concerned for her junior officer and friend.
"Everyone return to your duties,"Cyndi said concerned over the actions of Kirk as well.
