#7 Night Moves
Posted on Tue Jan 31st, 2023 @ 5:04am by Captain Sean Silk & Lieutenant JG Jamie T. Kirk/AKA: "Jim"
Mission:
Vanished
Location: Sickbay
Timeline: Current
ON:
Silk had left Sickbay to go have dinner with his family, going to Green's place to meet and greet Dwight better and help him adjust to shipboard life. The dinner was fun, full of laughter and varied stories from everyone at the table, and Sera got along famously with Dwight, the man showing a natural love for children and their curiosity. It had been a great night. But, now, he could not stop worrying about his patient, Lieutenant Kirk. He and Nira had spent time making love, with Sera out in the main room crashed out on the couch. After explaining the situation to Nira, who understood as a member of Security, Sean went back to Sickbay.
Upon entering Sickbay Silk found the lights down to minimum due to it being the late night/morning Gamma shift. Only a few soft lights and the control panels around the area were illuminating the facility. He saw Kirk, still on her bed, but clutching her midsection while in the fetal position, her body covered in sweat and a large mess of vomit on the floor next to the biobed. She had changed out of the uniform she had had on, and now wore a white sports bra and a pair of grey Starfleet sweat pants and booty socks, slip on sneakers on the foot of her bed. He could tell she was suffering from symptoms similar to the flu.
DURING THE NIGHT:
Kirk mixed several completely unrelated chemical ingredients together, so that if anyone saw that certain medication ingredients had been replicated then it would look totally innocent. No one here had the know how to make what she had planned. Two batches needed to be made with a dozen applications each. Working quickly as possible in this body, her body transferred from her reality to this one, and one thing the Jim from here did not know. Federation Kirk was now housed inside of Empire Kirk's brain, nothing but a memory, since the transition to this reality had been completed through the quantum realm and a burst of proton particles used in conjunction with a quantum singularity to create a dimensional portal between Universes. Sickbay was empty and her guard was snoozing over in a corner, which she added to with a hypo of anesthazine to keep him out for several hours. Captain Silk had been smart to place an overnight watch. The poor guy got bored watching a sleeping patient and slid into sleep. Kirk could not bring herself to harm him, he was so adorable, so she extended his sleep cycle with drugs.
The green version, the physical version, was nothing more than a 1.5 percent rise in her mitochondrial protein uptake. But with 1.5 percent, there was an immediate increase in cellular tempo, muscle efficiency, oxygenation...the works. It put her at the absolute peak of human physical proficiency and dexterity.
The blue version was intelligence, but far more than that. It was neural regeneration and elasticity. Sensory function. Pain suppression. Everything needed to make one far more agile and responsive in a combat situation due to higher cognitive responses and recognition for threat assessment. It also provided the hosts with eidetic memory.
Kirk had taken a dose of each with a hypo, the other squeeze pouches now placed inside a condom and inserted up inside herself. No one would think to look there even if they did figure out that she had been creating medicinal ingredients. Once that was done she made her way to the Sciences labs, seeing no one there since the SCI department was not one to work overnight unless deep in an experiment or research. With Amandora having been idle these past few weeks then there was not much to do. But, there were samples of live virus available for study, and that was what she needed. Going to the wall of cabinet drawers Kirk began to run a finger along each label, reading what virus was within. Nope...nope...nope, and then she found one. Human influenza. Perfect. Opening the drawer she took a sample tube from it and went back to the main Sickbay.
Back in her Universe they viraled everyone off greens eight months ago. They infected the Empress guard with live virus, which meant that, physically, they were stable. They don't need to take green doses anymore. Her scientific breakthrough locked it in. Any physical enhancement was now permanent. But, the Empress had denied Kirk the pleasure of permanizing it for herself, instead making her rely on the doses, controlled by the Empire.
The live virus was needed to seed adhesion.
So, let's say you want to change the human body. You want to fix a mistake. You want to repair something, improve something. Well, if you're going to reprogram human genetic material, you need a delivery system, and nothing works better than virus. It's like a suitcase. You pack in genetic mutation, infect the body and the vector unloads into the target cells. But getting it where you want it, how you want it, is the nightmare. Unless you have a map.
And, Kirk had mapped her DNA years ago, when she started the project, knowing that someday the Terran Empire would show up at her lab and take it all. They still did not have the method and ingredient mix they needed, she had destroyed it all and now carried the data in her mind. So, they could not kill her or lose the advantage of having soldiers that much better than the average human. Not augments by any means, just men and women a step above the ordinary permanently.
It was the most exciting development in genomic targeting in the history of the science.
Once she had the virus she then set the hypo with virus and chemicals mixed together. Taking in a breath she pressed the hypo to her carotid artery and hit the trigger. The blue-green viral mix went straight into her veins and within twenty minutes she was a writhing, flu ridden individual, the virus unpacking the mixtures directly into the cells she needed it in, to permanently improve her physical and mental characteristics. Being weak and achy from the illness Kirk fell in and out of sleep, the hypo still clutched in her hand, now bereft of what had been inside of it.
NOW:
"Damn it, Kirk! What did you do?" Asked Silk in a low tone as he went to her side, careful not to step in the yuck on the floor.
"I..." Jim swallowed hard, her mouth still trying to salivate for vomiting. "I...need-ed...to. They will...come."
"Who? Who will come?" Silk saw her head roll back as she began to pass out. "Hey! Hey!" He shook her slightly, bringing her back around even with her being drowsey. "What did you inject yourself with, dummy? I can stave off the affects if I know."
"Flu...Earth..." Again, Kirk passed out. Was that a grin on her face? Crazy bitch, he thought.
Laying her back gently Silk gathered an anti-flu hypo and loaded the cartridge, pressing it to Kirk's neck and injecting her with the anti-virus. This would clear the symptoms but the virus itself was already in her system, and would have to work itself out eventually. With her torso now in a sports bra instead of that whore garb she had on earlier, Sean began to notice that her muscles had streamlined, becoming more pronounced, with sinew and tendons looking ready for action, even with her sleeping. What the hell did she inject herself with, beyond the flu?
Finally, with the situation back under control, silk noticed the dozing Security officer. Loading another hypo with an adrenal he went over and injected the guy. As he came to Silk gave him a grin. "You can go. I'll watch her now. She's sick with the flu so you might want to skidaddle." He did not have the heart to tell the guy he had been knocked out this whole time.
The Security man got up and left quickly, not wanting to get sick, and glad a marine was watching his charge. "Now," Sean said to himself. "What to do with you, Lieutenant." This was not going to look good to the command staff, or Kris. He then spotted the hypo with an empty cartridge in it, clutched in her left hand. Pulling it free from her slack grip he turned it this way and that, not seeing anything left over that he could sample and examine. Another damn mystery, he thought.
