Barrad-Nur made his way to the guest quarters where Captain Rivers was housed. He knew he was pushing his luck with his ruse but didn't have the time required for a proper psyops operation.

He arrived at her door and after taking a few deep breaths, tapped the console. He knew he'd have to be careful as one little slip could send the whole thing spiraling out of control. "Barrad-Nur here. May I have a moment of your time?"

"A moment of my time?" Alesha asked "I've been beamed off my fighter, gassed, questioned and now I'm in VIP quarters for reasons I don't know. It seems your holding all the cards so my time is your time."

Barrad-Nur stepped inside. "You misunderstand. You are no longer a prisoner. You have completed your mission for the syndicate. Your payment is being collected as we speak."

Alesha placed her hands on her hips, "And what mission is that? You mentioned payment, what kind of payment and if I'm not a prisoner then why the guards?"

Barrad-Nur laughed. "You are aware of where you are right? The syndicate is a den of thieves. Those are for your protection just as my guards are for mine."

He walked over to a replicator and ordered a cup of Orion meade. "As to your mission, you were to gather intel aboard the Amandora. Crew compliment, security measures, command codes and so on. As soon as we asked the first question, the trigger question by the way, the mental block was removed and you spilled your guts, as the humans say."

"He sat down and took a sip of meade. "Something went wrong however and the mental block reasserted itself. Since you are Starfleet, you might be able to take your payment and resume you life aboard ship, but sooner or later you will be found out and arrested. You would be much better off staying with us."

"If what you say is true then I'll surrender to the commodore and first officer and the marine general for punishment and a discharge from Starfleet and the marines," Alesha said "And I'll accept the treason charges for both Starfleet and my home planet's government as well."

Barrad-Nur put on an expression of sadness. "But why? You can be rich and we would surely give you a position of high importance in the organization. You'd be throwing your career away and for what? What of all your talk of disenchantment with the Federation and their wishy-washy, your words, approach to governing? You can do things your way now as long as you cut the right people in. I do wish you wouldn't make a rash decision here."

"I'm loyal to Starfleet, a marine general and a King, Queen and a Princess. My family is highly thought of on my home planet and IF what you say is true I can never go home again. But tell me where and when did this memory block happen at?" Alesha asked still very suspicious of everything as she knew how she'd come to be with Starfleet and the marines.

Barrad-Nur laughed. "We had more than one operative aboard the Amandora for a time. Unfortunately, the other was reassigned to Starfleet medical when he began exhibiting strange behavior. He's a write off, as it were. He is the one who telepathically conditioned you."

"And who was that?" Alesha asked

"You are tenacious, I'll give you that." He stood up and went to a cubby in one of the walls, picked up a figurine as if to examine it. "His name is Ensign Bron Chase and he worked in the quartermaster department. Satisfied?"

"I've never heard that name before," Alesha said "Something tells me this is all a ruse to get me to reveal things about the Amandora. Things I cannot tell, nor would I, even if means my death."

Barrad-Nur was getting peeved, but he didn't want to show it. "Fine, have it your way. You don't want your pay? No matter. You have already given us the information we wanted and if you wish to stubbornly throw your career away so be it, but I assure you, you are making a mistake because you will now have two targets on your back. The Federation and the Syndicate will both want your head."

"I don't believe you, your trying to convince me of something that I'm sure isn't true. You show me proof of what you've told me. And I don't need any money, you know nothing about me of that I'm sure," Alesha said wishing she had her phaser.

"I was afraid of this." Barrad-Nur said after a long pause. "Apparently when our other operative experienced mental issues he somehow disrupted the mental block. I'm afraid you might now be considered a wash. We got what we wanted and you are now simply a problem, one I have no interest in dealing with any longer."

He strode to the door, turned and said "Perhaps the thought of your imminent execution will jog your memory. Take this time to make your peace with whatever gods you worship."

The door slid open and as he walked out he could be heard saying "What a shame".

"Execution my ass," Alesha growled as she searched for something she could use as a weapon, finding a broom caused her to giggle, picking it up she unscrewed the broom head from the handle and twirled it, while not a staff she was used to fighting with it would work as a weapon, walking to the door she held the broom handle to one side as the door opened. Seeing the guards Alesha swung the broom handle at one of them knocking him to the deck. She placed the end at the man's throat and looked at the other one "Unless you want to see him dead you'll give me your phaser and get in those quarters!"
