Whatever Kirk was doing, she was doing it up front in the runabout's Bridge. The woman had not even had the good grace to see to the dead man's corpse. Ainkara had remained still, quiet, not wanting to draw attention to herself as she went over her options. Kirk had to be stopped and Burke needed medical attention. Perhaps, if Ainkara could draw on it as she had before, the Core would provide the Voran woman the means to heal Sam's damaged shoulder and rid him of any radiation sickness and infection.
Reaching out with the Core, Ainkara focused it on Sam, who was laying on his left side in the fetal position, ankles and wrists secured firmly. His breathing was heavy, as a man sleeping. His back was against the bulkhead opposite Ainkara, and away from the door. Kirk had kept them both away from the doorway. The Core told her that Sam was ill, feeling the affects of the radiation from the particle weapon. If allowed to persist his condition would only worsen. So, with that in mind, Ainkara glanced at the cuff keeping her attached to the bunk frame, and it clicked open with but a thought. She grinned to herself. ~I owe you one, Master Ro~
Removing her wrist from the shackle Ainkara got up quickly and grabbed a medkit from the wall, dropping to her knees next to Sam. She popped the kit open and pulled out the hypo and then rummaged for a capsule of hyronalin. Finding one she loaded the capsule into the hypo, pressed it to Sam's neck at the jugular and injected the anti-radiation medication. After that she set the hypo aside and went to grab the dermal regenerator to work on the damaged skin but she got thrown forward, off balance, smacking her face into the wall even as she partially landed atop Sam. "What the...?" She got herself to her hands and knees, craning her neck to look up at the ceiling. "Did we hit something?" She asked herself.
The rumbling happened again, several times in a row. "We're being attacked!" Getting to her feet Ainkara moved to the door and went to step through to the Bridge, the door ajar as she made it halfway through before being jostled by another impact to the ship, causing her to lean on the wall for support. Kirk was looking forward, and with all the chaos, did not hear the door slide open. However, thought Ainkara, now would not be a good time to fight with her seeing as they were being fired upon. Instead, Ainkara quickly moved forward and planted her tush in the co-pilot's seat. "Focus on flying," she said. "I'll man the weapons."
Kirk, at first, almost drew her sidearm to shoot the woman, but then realized she needed the help. Pretty ballsy of the Voran woman to come up here and just act like all was normal, but given the circumstances, normal was a point of view. "They've damaged the warp drive and the photon controls," stated Kirk. "I'm heading for that star system, see if we can find cover or a place to land and hide."
Ainkara was nodding as Kirk spoke, only half listening as she focused her eyes on the screens before her. The Orion blockade runner was looking to capture them and make a profit from the slave markets. Angling her fire arcs Ainkara used the emitters around the ship and began to fire back even as Kirk maneuvered for all she was worth. The runabout took a few more hits, an acrid haze of smoke filling the Bridge from singed metal and burnt plastics. "There," Ainkara pointed out the viewport. "That ringed gas giant. Use the rings as cover and lose them."
"Got it!" Kirk angled the ship that way.
Ainkara called upon the Core, using Sense to reach out as she closed her eyes and concentrated on the Orion ship. Her right hand floated over the controls, a millimeter above the firing key, waiting for the right opportunity. When the Core alerted her that now was a good time, Ainkara tapped the key several times, sending out a lethal filament of energy that hit the Orion ship in critical areas. Their main weapons went down, as did their shields, and they began to lose velocity.
"Nice shooting!" Said Kirk, having reached the rings and descending into them to use the chunks of ice and rock as cover.
Using the sensors Ainkara began to scan the area. "This star system is uncharted. Or, at least, hasn't been visited by more than a probe in over sixty years. Sensor logs say there is a Class L world. Hopefully, it isn't a frozen."
"Who gives a damn," said Kirk. "It's a place to land and effect repairs. You help me with this and I promise you and Burke will be set free. I will not go to prison. Deal?"
To save Sam's life Ainkara gave a single, slow nod. "Deal. Just know, Kirk, if he dies so do you. I'll go see to him."
After Ainkara left the Bridge Kirk grinned to herself. The ruse had worked. The dumbass woman did not even suspect that the Orions had been called here by Jamie herself. Ainkara and Burke were Kirk's way of buying safe passage away from this region of space. The Orions get slaves, she gets freedom. Seemed a fair trade to her.
