It had been a little while since Amethyst had checked in with Tara to see how the Brol plants were growing, walking into the science lab she looked around surprised to see the plants had been moved in with others in another more isolated lab area. Making her way inside she instinctively knew which were Brol and which weren't as she stepped across to them gently touching the plants as she inspected their growth.
"Hi Tara" Amethyst smiled as she turned to look. "Sorry I was just checking how the fruit trees were doing. They like it here, it's good for growth and nutrition."
"They're doing well, I only wish I knew how safe they are to eat," Tara commented. "After what's happened with you I'm afraid to let anyone else eat the fruit. I'm going to run some tests on them and see what I find."
“That’s a good idea but I don’t think you’ll find anything harmful.” Amethyst smiled as she walked around inspecting the trees and the fruit they were starting to grow. “They’re just fruit trees, Brol fruit isn’t harmful to anyone, the one Brol gave me was ... special and for my consumption alone.”
"Perhaps your right, but in giving you that fruit and by you eating it, proved it dangerous as no one knows what the long term effects are," Tara commented "To be honest with you, I'm worried about you."
“About me ...” Amethyst sighed and nodded. “You’re not the only one believe me.” She moved to take a seat on a nearby stool. “I’m fine ... really! I’m getting used to whatever it is that’s going on with me, I’ve had a baby before just not so rapidly.” She smiled a wry smile. “As for being part Brol, all I’m feeling is more of a connection to the plant life here on the ship. More of an understanding, an instinct if you will. Plus my telepathic abilities seem to have grown, but that was the whole idea for me to be able to sustain communication with Brol for longer.”
"But what of the long term effects?" Tara asked "In a way what he's done to you is in violation of your rights. This was done without your permission. Is this permanent or temporary?"
“As far as I know it’s permanent” Amethyst paused. “Tara, Brol didn’t force me to eat that fruit, it was my decision. He told me it would help me, make me stronger.” She shrugged her shoulders.
"Made you stronger, probably but how do you feel about this? Will every pregnancy be this quick or just this one? Amethyst this is so new that no one knows what to think," Tara said
“I know, I can feel the doubts and fears about me.” She sighed. “To be honest I don’t know how I feel. I’m starting to wish it could all be normal again but that’s not going to happen at least not anytime soon.”
Tara brought over a stool and took a seat across from her "I wish I had some answers for you, I'm a scientist, I can run scans but I'm not a doctor, at least not a medical doctor. I guess my advice is just ride this out and see what happens. And I'll run tests on these fruit trees in here and see what I come up with."
Amethyst nodded. “Agreed. There’s not much else I can do, this pregnancy is going fast and it’s not going to slow down unless anything changes.” She smiled warmly, “Thank you for caring Tara, I appreciate it.”
Tara smiled back, got up and walked to a small cooler and returned with a peach colored drink and handed it to her, "This made from a plant native to my home planet. It's one of my favorite drinks. It looks like a peach, it smells like lemons and tastes cool and refreshing with a hint of mint. It won't hurt you."
“Thank you” Amethyst smiled as she took the drink and tried it. “Mmm that’s lovely.” She sipped some more. “Can I get this from the replicator? I’ve been instructed to drink a lot more due to the fact that a sack has developed that’s providing the baby with extra water.”
"It can be, but there is no translation from my language to Federation Standard as it's from a very old language that very few on my planet can speak. But I can write it down for you and if you type it in just as I write it, it should work. Or you can just come see me," Tara said
“If you don’t mind writing it down that would be great” Amethyst smiled warmly. “It saves me bugging you every time I want to replicate a glass.”
Tara picked up a PADD and wrote down the recipe for the drink and handed it to her. "Only about twenty on my world can speak that old language. I have to know how to speak it. Can you understand what I've written?"
Amethyst took a look and nodded, “Yes I can, thank you.” She smiled before picking up her drink and taking a nice long drink. “They keep telling me to stay hydrated, it’s not like I have a choice I get really thirsty so I have to drink anyway.” She grinned. “I’m sure this drink will help to keep my fluid intake up.”
"It will at that, an old priestess introduced my mother to it before I was born and I've grown up drinking it," Tara replied
“Lucky you!” Amethyst smiled. “It’s lovely. Anyway I should go and let you get on with your work.”
"Stop by anytime," Tara replied
“I will, thank you.” Amethyst smiled warmly before heading for the door, pausing just before the door. “Oh Tara, would you send me a copy of those test results on the plants please.”
"I'll be happy to do that," Tara assured her
“Thank you Tara” With that Amethyst headed on her way.
