< Morgue >

The lifeless Brol corpse resembled nothing more than a floating log in a river as it lay on the gurney. Every known symbol of religion filled the walls at it was there for all known races. One had a crescent, there was a cross, several stars and finally one that resembled a tree was where H'iri rested the body. This was for the unknown God of Eden.

H'iri teared up as she knew Brol meant a lot to her new friend Amethyst. The Amethyst she now had to call to this morgue.

" Amethyst can you meet me in the sickbay?" H'iri said into her communicator pin.

This was the call Amethyst had been dreading, she’d felt the loss of Brol the moment he’d ceased to be. It had felt like a part of herself and Flora had been torn away. “I’m on my way H’iri” Making her way to Sickbay she entered in a somber mood, “It’s Brol ... he’s gone isn’t he?” She looked at H’iri awaiting the inevitable answer.

" Brol was found by Ensign Humphreys. It turned off the voice modifier and appears to have left a message. I didn't play it. Do you want to ?" H'iri asked.

Amethyst nodded. “Yes, please.”

In audio only the rustic voice played the message.

" Am..ethyst...I do not have long.,The change is upon me. The waters from Brol no longer feed my roots. I am, sorry. Sorry for using you to preserve my kind. Love our child even if you despise me. Flora will be useful to humanity and will one day give back to this universe. Someday, if you...can take, her to Brol. She will able to commune with all flora using the gifts of her spirit. I wish I could have loved you longer my friend." Brol.

Amethyst stood speechless she wasn’t sure how she was supposed to feel. “I never ... realised Brol loved me. I thought, it was just friendship.” She looked at H’iri as she wiped away a few tears. “Our child, Brol said our child, did he know what was going to happen? That I’d have a child? Was it some kind of plan!” She looked at H’iri in disbelief, with his last few words Brol had her doubting his motives. “It doesn’t matter, all that matters now is Flora. She’s Brol’s legacy.”

H'iri observed Amethyst reaction and then hugged her.

" Looove is alll consuming. Your connection to Brol was a universal mystery. How do you wish to dispose of the remains? Cremation, burial in space? My heavens what is on your arm?" H'iri asked pointing to what looked like bark. Grabbing a tricorder she began scanning and then pulling.

" Girl it is bark...rhythydome. An alter shell." said H'iri.

“It’s what!” Amethyst looked at her arm, she hadn’t even noticed it until now. “My arm was itching there prior to this but I’ve been itching on and off everywhere the past couple of days. I just put it down to stress and hormonal changes.” She looked at Brol. “Would you please arrange for a cremation, I can take his ashes to a suitable world and sprinkle them.”

" Yes but we need to treat this first. Let me run some scans. " H'iri said rushing again. Linking those to the bio computer she quickly had a 86% treatment. A topical cream that Dr Leonard McCoy from Enterprise had created to off set a Phylosian rash.

Cross referencing this H'iri made an even greater find.

" This rash is 92% a match for a Phylosian rash. I compared dna sequences of it and this. The Brol appears to be a forerunner of the Phylosians. Their missing link. This is a marvelous find." H'iri declared.

“Sounds fascinating” Amethyst sounded unimpressed but her mood was still pretty somber. “If you don’t mind I need some time alone, am I free to go?”

"Of course, here rub this stuff where it itches. The bark should flake off in a few hours. It must be a defense against pestilence for when a Brol produces fruit." H'iri replied handing Amethyst a tube of synthasized gel.

“Thank you H’iri” Amethyst offered a small smile before heading sombrely out of Sickbay. At first she wasn’t sure where to go or what to do before she made up her mind and headed to Brol’s favourite spot in the Arboretum.

H'iri called for orderlies to wheel the Brol corpse into the creamatory and then prepared it for the procedure.
