Posted on Wed Sep 2nd, 2020 @ 12:32pm by Captain Jackson Porter & Lieutenant Damien Saunders

Mission: Star Base Mercury
Location: Main Shuttle/Fighter Deck
Timeline: Current

[ON:]

Damien had finished up what he had to do in Main Engineering. Once he had delegated a few tasks to Lieutenant Clinton and Ensign Humphrey’s, he was able to drop in on the flight deck.

Entering the large room, the fighters were parked. Letting his self in, Saunders walked up to one of the fighters inspecting their underbellies.

“Captain Porter?” He taped his communication badge, “Are you around the flight deck? It’s Chief Saunders.” He wondered if he had dropped in with nobody home.

Porter was sitting in his office when the call came in. He tapped his combadge. =/\= "Porter here, I'm currently in my office. Come on over!." =/\=

Capt. Saunders walked across the shuttle bay, the fighters lined up and spaced impeccably. The various Eva attachments and cargo across the deck in use.

"Capt." Saunders had knocked on the office window, outside the shuttle bay. He then entered the Capt.'s office. He saluted the fighter pilot. "How goes the deck?" He smiled.

Porter returned the salute. "Things are going well. The fighters are ready to go for whatever our next mission is. What can I do for you?"

Saunders looked at the bay from the office window. "I wanted to know how the fighters were behaving. Any necessary throttling? Anything engineering can get its sticky hands on?" He was frankly a bit bored. Saunders was "Just kicking the tires to be honest Capt." He chuckled.

Standing up and smiling Porter gestured towards the door. "No problem, allow me to give you a quick tour of them and our facilities." The two walked out into the main shuttlebay where the fighters were parked. "Our fighters are very capable crafts. They are able to withstand a good deal of damage for something their size, and have an equally impressive weapons loadout."

"Intimidating designs aren't they." He gruffed at the payloads they carried. Saunders was impressed as they had walked by their platforms. "How well are the shield generators. Do they get hot fast?"

"Depends on how much power is going to them. These Valkyrie-class fighters are some of the best Starfleet has, but as with any other ship, overuse of any system will run it hot." Jackson tapped the side of the fighter they were next to. "On some missions, I had to transfer most auxiliary power to shield, and on one occasion, the shield emitter burned out from all the juice going to it. I won't lie, I was a little worried for the rest of that battle."

Damien whistled at that thought. "No room for fail safes. You fly boys have the born talent I tell you." He was enjoying the tour.

"Maybe some time..." He sounded like a kid, "I could take a Valkyrie for a ride around the block?" He rubbed at his chin.

"That's a possibility. Once we have some downtime between orders, I'll see what we can do." Porter remembered what it was like to get started as a pilot, so he recognized the lieutenant's excitement at being around the fighters.

"I'll take that." Saunders nodded with a cheeky grin. "Thanks Captain, for your time. I should let you get back to the deck." He then nodded, taking one last look at the Valkyrie-class fighter. Mighty piece of technology, he couldn't wait to pull the throttle.

"Anytime, you know where to find me." As Saunders left, Porter sensed that a fighter ride was going to be on the schedule soon. Maybe it's something he could make a regular thing for the non-flighties aboard the Amandora.
