Myra was complete for Sabbath as he finished his Doctorate and headed to the air port. He had been encouraged to complete the dissertation on the Preserves before his academy window closed and he would have to start over.

Fortunately returned Admiral Hemmel chaired the Doctorate Board, who he had know from his days on the Reliant C. With Henmel's blessing Sabbaths anthropology degree was complete. But Sabbath did not feel complete.

He had made a committee to Commodore Cyndi Song to fill in as the Chief Science Officer. For Sabbath his word was his oath as it was for the Awa peoples of Earth.

Despite his plans to join friends for drinks Sabbath did some home work and with connections found out the Amandora’s last known coordinates.

Chartering a long range shuttle Sabbath headed out for the second time to complete his first works over.

< SS Dothan >

Aboard the cargo vessel Dothan, Sabbath exchanged his skills for a voyage to a system not to far from the last known coordinates of the Amandora.

A punctual little clipper the Dothan's Skipper waited only a short while as the Amandora entered the system.

[ Starfleet Vessel this is the Freighter SS Dothan. I have an officer that says he is needed on your ship? If that's a no I can be on my way and he and his little pointed ears can run my sensor board.]hailed the Skipper.

"Commodore your being hailed by the freighter Dothan the CO reports he has an officer aboard that is supposed to be on this ship," communications said.

"Open channel," Cyndi ordered

"Your on commodore,"

"This is Commodore Song who is this officer?" Cyndi asked

[ Sabbath or something Vulcan like that. You want him?]

"Sabbath is my science chief of course I want him. Beam him aboard and have him report to my ready room" Cyndi said

[ Well I offered. You will have to beam him I dont have one of those things.]

< 30 Minutes later >

With duffel bag in tow Sabbath arrived to the Bridge and then to the Ready Room.

" Permission to come aboard Commodore?" Sabbath greeted. A flash back of approaching the Awa high priest reminded him of this moment.

"Permission granted," Cyndi replied.

" Commodore I submit to you for reprimand. It became aware to me that my window of opportunity to complete my Doctorate was drawing near. Admiral Henmel was willing to allow me to complete my project and so I took the opportunity. I then made haste to find this ship and complete my deployment duties to the Amandora and you." Sabbath explained.

"What upset me was you just left without letting myself or Commander Parker know, I apload you for getting your doctorate. That's an accomplishment. I have mine as does Lieutenant Herculoid. What this has done lieutenant is you were up for a promotion to lieutenant commander. That will now be on the back burner until such time you prove to us your deserving of it," Cyndi said.

" Commodore I ask for your grace in this manner. I respectfully yield to accept a demotion and serve as your assistant chief of science if you feel that is fair. Lt Herculoid is a better fit for the chiefs spot given her years of service . With your permission I will serve this ship with the best of my ability and you will have my complete attention and team work from this point forward." Sabbath replied.

"While this does deserve a demotion to assistant chief I'm not going to do it at this time. I will put a letter in your file. Herculoid is an accomplished scientist and is deserving of a chief slot and one day she'll get it. Right now I want you there," Cyndi said "And I want your word you won't take off again without letting me or the XO know."

Sabbath then stood up and made a most illogical move as he took out a small bladed instrument and creased his hand resulting in the dripping of blood.

" I was raised along side the Awa people of Earth. In remembrance of their way I make a blood oath to you Commodore to serve you with my mind and soul. This is an oath my father made to the chief and one I now make with you." Sabbath pledged.

"I accept your oath," Cyndi said getting up and grabbing a towel so she could bind his bleeding hand.

Sabbath wiped the blood and then stood at attention. This was not any ritual Vulcan tradition but one he honored just as much having been raised with the Awa." Permission to check in with Lt Herculoid?"

'Permission granted and get that hand checked too," Cyndi said "Herculoid should be in her office."


Sabbath nodded and then went to the Bridge to find Tara Herculoid.

" Hello Tara." Sabbath modestly greeted.

"Sabbath," Tara greeted keeping her voice low as they were on the bridge. "Why don't we take this to my office so we don;t disrupt the bridge personal,"

Sabbath followed Tara to her office and prepared to explain.

" I suppose you have questions? Despite the good pun I am all ears." Sabbath began.

Tara took a seat at her desk and indicated for him to take one as well, stacking a pile of PADDS "You bet I do, and I'm sure the commodore had a lot too. Where did you go? What would you have done had you had no assistant to take over science for you?" Tara asked .

" My actions were not logical. I was racing a time crunch to finish my project and dissertation concerning my Doctorate. I had to leave as soon as possible to get back to finish it. As for the mission, and as for the ship it is no secret you should be this ships Chief of Science. You know this and so does the Commodore. " Sabbath replied.

"I was chief science officer until about a year ago when a new officer transferred aboard who just was a little more qualified to be chief than I was so I took a step down to assistant.That officer left after a few months and the commodore kept me where I am. As for your doctorate degree I'm thrilled you have it. It's an accomplishment to get one. I've had mine for several years now," Tara replied. "If the commodore wants you as chief then it's her call not mine to question things."

" Your loyalty to her is admirable. I too took a pledge and will abide by it. I would like to catch up on your findings before the briefing. May I use you computer to catch up?"Sabbath replied.

"Of course," Tara said as she logged into her computer and switched the language to Federation Standard. Once that was cone she called up her findings and turned the computer so he could read it.

" I will look these over and get caught up on the mission specs. Thank you Tara. " Sabbath replied.

"If you have any questions let me know," Tara said.

" I am sure I will but I don't want to hold you up." Sabbath replied.

"You won't hold me up, I've got a stack of reports to file and report for what I'm sure the commodore is going to need for the staff meeting," Tara said.

" With your permission then I will forward this to my terminal and read it in my quarters. I still have to unpack...my bag." Sabbath replied.


"Of course you have my permission," Tara said
