As the elder whipped off the three deaf children Sabbath observed and slowly walked to observe as they vanished in the folage. The aromas hid their sent but not their tracks availing Sabbath to follow them.
Just outside of the camp but inside of the jungle a whole new world existed with large canopy trees.
Sabbath tapped his comm badge " Chief Science Officer log...my first encounter with the native population has been to discover a form.of cast system. Clearly there are a group of these people who appear to be born deaf and theybare excluded from the main branch. My study continues."
Sabbath continued the pace and then paused when he saw a few more of the children gathered and also a few male.and female adult couples. They were preparing a meal and also looking at several of the gold nights from.a.nearby stream. No real voices only a few grunts could be heard by Sabbath.
As a child with the Awa he had witnessed one such issue with a deaf tribesman. He was allowed to sit with the elders and was given a wife to care for him. Ironically all of their children grew up and could hear.
Sabbath observed that atleast three adults were attending to the children which availed that not all found these children unredeemed. Slowly backing away Sabbath returned to the others and spying the Counselor he made his way over.
" Counselor when time avails I wish to confer with you about some of the children in this settlement." Sabbath whispered.
"Mr. Sabbath now's a good as time as any" she purposely disregarded his rank so as not to be over heard by the locals as she whispered back "What's on your mind."
" I am observing a unique subculture here. I have found evidence that some of the children show signs of being deaf. They are not allowed to play with the other children and are residing a few hundred meters away from this settlement." Sabbath reported.
Thinking for a few minutes "Unfortunately in some more primitive cultures, like this one, children who are different or have impediments are often times segregated from the healthy or normal people. Some cultures even consider them sick and some even demon possessed" Tabitha explained "Let's hope the latter is not the case here."
" I believe that is the case. Thank you for your input Counselor. " Sabbath replied. However something stuck in his crawl as the humans said. As they were away from the rest for now Sabbath concluded not to fester on.
He would now study the adults in the group more scrupulously as he had those children.
With a smile "Any time Mr. Sabbath; always happy to help out a colleague" she whispered then turned and headed back to the main area with the others.
