Mission: Character Development 7/26
Location: USS Amandora
Timeline: Current - Shore Leave

[ON]

Lieutenant Damien Saunders stepped off the turbolift onto the main bridge of the USS Amandora with a PADD pressed against his side and this quiet kind of satisfaction sitting in his chest...

The ship had only just locked onto the starbase. The air still had that particular freshness of a vessel newly arrived, systems settling, enviromental processors cycling after the last stretch of travel. He was happy to be here. After the Kincaid, after years of assistant work and borrowed labs, this was his department now... His name on the roster as Chief Science Officer. The thought made the corner of his mouth want to lift and he let it, just a little, before he put the professional look back on...

He was tall enough that he always had to mind the overhead fittings on some of the older ships but the Amandoras bridge felt open and well designed... Blue eyes moved in a quick methodical sweep the same way they always did when he walked into a unfamiliar space. Console layouts, lighting temperature, the faint vibration through the deck plates that told him the core was stable and the inertial dampners was doing there quiet work. He catalogued it without really meaning too. Exo-science habits die hard. A couple officers glanced his way. He offered a small polite nod and kept walking, boots measured, uniform pretty much straight, brown hair still neat from the last look he gave himself in the transporter room mirror...

The ready room door sat where it should, just off the command well. Damien stopped in front of it, squared his shoulders, and felt a brief ridiculous flutter of nerves that had nothing to do with rank and everything to do with first meetings. He liked people. He liked teamwork. He also liked things to run clean and first impressions was data you only got once. He tapped the chime then rested the PADD in both hands so it wouldn't look like he was hiding behind it.

“Lieutenant Damien Saunders, reporting as ordered,” he said when the door opened, voice even and kind. “Permission to come aboard and assume my post, Commodore."

He stayed where he was, waiting, that faint Toronto courtesy still in the way he stood, the scientist in him already curious about the woman who commanded this ship and the laboratories waiting two decks down...

Cyndi stood and walked from behind her desk and offered her hand. "I heard I was getting a new science chief, welcome aboard. Do you have your transfer orders for me? I'm Commodore Song the ships commanding officer."

Damien replied to the greeting, extended his hand, and shook the Commodore's welcoming handshake.

"Yes, Commodore..." He turned the PADD, opened the transfer packet, and set it in her hand. "Orders and service jacket... All countersigned."

A small, even smile... "Thank you, Commodore. It's good to be aboard. Permission to assume the post once you've signed me in. If you need anything from Science while we’re in dock, I can have it on your desk this afternoon..."

"I have you signed in and your officially the Chief Science Officer. Your assistant is Lieutenant Tara Herculoid, She's been acting chief for the past few weeks. Make sure you meet her. I'd like you to see Dr. Long for a boarding physical before we pull out." Cyndi said. "I'll review science and see if there is anything that you need to be aware of. Permission to assume your new position granted and welcome aboard."

"Thank you, Commodore," Damien responded. "I will check in with the Lieutenant immediately." He was happy to be aboard the Amandora and looking forward to meeting his new fellow science officer.

With a salute, Damien then turned and let himself out of the Commodore's busy schedule. The doors opened and then closed behind him.
