Having accompanied her new boyfriend to Sickbay after the so-called ‘fun’ evening of fights Christina had waited whilst he was treated before accompanying David back to his quarters. No sooner were the doors closed then she told him exactly what she thought.

“Are you crazy?! You call beating the crap out of each other fun?!” She paced backwards and forwards. “What if you’d have gotten yourself seriously hurt? What if you’d have needed surgery or something?!!” She stopped pacing and shook her head. “Don’t ever ask me to watch you do that again!!”

Walking up to her and gently placing his hand on her cheek, he said, "Hun, I'm sorry I upset you, and if I had known it would have, I'd never have done it". Choking up, a single tear made its way down his his cheek as he added, "I'm so damn sorry, that was foolish, I hate seeing you upset".

Chrissy gently wiped away the tear. “It’s not just you, either there was a malfunction or someone deliberately turned off the holodeck safeties for you to get hurt! That means either someone wanted carnage or they wanted to hurt you!” She was concerned and it showed. “What if someone is trying to hurt you?”

"I know, I know", Hurd replied in a low quiet voice. The enormity of the situation had yet to fully hit him, but it was starting to. "And now, because of me, Riggs is dead, and I have to inform his parents", he finished, almost crying at the last part. "I am such a damn fool!!!".

Chrissy gave her man a comforting hug, trying to be supportive. “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to sound so angry. I was just worried about you! When I saw Riggs lying there all I could think of was it being you lying there.”

Burying his face into her shoulder, Hurd finally broke. "Baby, it SHOULD have been me". "Riggs was so young, and had so much life ahead of him, with so many things that now he will never get to experience". Hurd, by this point was full on crying. "I watched the life drain out of his eyes." "He trusted me, and", Hurd was racked with sobs, "He trusted me and I got him killed".

Chrissy hugged David tightly doing her best to offer comfort. “It wasn’t your fault David, it was the fault of whoever turned off those holodeck safeties. I’m sorry I shouted, I shouldn’t have. Forgive me.”

Still sobbing, Hurd said, "It's ok, it's ok, I don't blame you at all". Hurd went silent for a long moment before he spoke àgin in a broken voice. "What am I going to tell his parents, that I got their only child killed?" "Damn my life to hell".

“Don’t talk like that!” Chrissy hugged him gently yet firmly. “You tell them that he died doing what he enjoyed, that his life was taken by someone who will pay very dearly for his death.” She lead him over to the sofa and they sat down together. “This was not your fault at all David, you couldn’t have known this would happen. I just hope they find who did this.”
