Amethyst had yet to meet her new CO, not wanting to waste any more time she made her way to the Captain’s ready room. Arriving at the door she pressed the chime and waited for permission to enter.
"Enter!" Cyndi called as she hung the picture of her husband and son on the wall across from her desk. Various science awards were hung on the wall behind her desk
Walking into the office Amethyst smiled as she greeted Cyndi. “Lieutenant Aloran reporting for duty Captain. I’m your new Chief Counselor.”
"Welcome aboard," Cyndi greeted smiling "Please have a seat," she nodded to the chairs across from her desk as she took a seat behind her desk.
“Thank you Captain” Amethyst smiled warmly as she walked over to a seat and sat down. “It’s nice to be here Ma’am.”
"I've gone over your service record and to say I'm honored to have you here is an understatement. You come highly recommended," Cyndii said "How was your trip out here?"
“Uneventful I’m glad to say” Amethyst grinned. “I got myself settled in and my office sorted out before coming to meet you, I like to make sure I’m prepared and ready for work.”
"I'm still setting up my office and my quarters are another matter. I have boxes stacked in a corner that I've not even begun to sort through. But I'll get there," Cyndi said smiling. I'm going to concentrate on my office since this is where most of my officers will meet with me."
“I’m one of those people who hates having boxes lying around my quarters!” Amethyst grinned. “I’m the eternal tidy person who has everything in its place.”
"I've never been that way. If my mother were here she'd tell you my rooms at home were always a disaster. But being a scientist I have things laid out so I know where they are. You go clean something and I can't find it I won't be happy," Cyndi said laughing. "But being in command now I'll have to keep things more tidy."
Amethyst smiled. “Is this your first command Captain? I’ll admit I’d normally look up personnel files before arrival but as haven’t done that this time around.”
Cyndi nodded "Yes it's my first command. I've turned them down in the past."
“Any particular reason why?” Amethyst studied her CO with interest. “We’re you just not ready?”
"To be honest I didn't want a command. But Commodore Snow can be very persuasive. I'm a scientist and taking a command I feared was going to take me out of the science labs. That and my husband is a semi-retired admiral. I didn't want anyone to think I got a command because of him. That's why I don't use my married name," Cyndi commented
“I guess I don’t blame you there. My father is an Admiral, kind of makes me feel like I’m living under a very large shadow. I want to make my parents proud of me. My mother is a Counselor too comes with the territory when you’re Betazoid.”
"That it does," Cyndi agreed "And being related to an admiral is no easy feat either. My husband and son are not aboard. We're not sure if he's going to come out or not. Currently they're on my home planet."
Amethyst nodded. “It must be hard being away from your loved ones. I know how difficult it is being parted from someone you love.”
"It is hard, but it's also for the best," Cyndi said carefully "If my husband does come my son will remain on Klavor for his own safety."
“Any particular reason why your son wouldn’t be safe here Captain?” Amethyst studied her Captain curiously.
"I'm a Princess, not that I acknowledge it because I don't. He's heir to my planet's throne," Cyndi responded
“Oh I see!” Amethyst smiled warmly. “Wow I’m talking to royalty! That’s most definitely a first your highness.”
Cyndi shook her head "As I said I don't acknowledge it. Your one of very few who I've told. I'm the captain of this ship first and foremost, the only time I'll acknowledge that title is when I'm on Klavor. Otherwise I'm just little ole Captain Cyndi Song nothing more."
“Understood Captain” Amethyst nodded and smiled. “You’ll find me useful especially when you need to use my abilities for any particular reason. Most Betazoids are a dead giveaway because of their dark hair and eyes. As you can see I have more of my father’s genetic traits rather than those of my mother.”
"I've only known a couple of Betazoids and ave liked both of them. Each culture has its own genes. You'll be good as your not a typical looking one. That will be an asset and rest assured I will rely on you," Cyndi replied
"That's what I'm here for Captain. I'm not just a Counselor I'm also your advisor and sounding board when needed." Amethyst smiled warmly.
"Thank you and I will keep that in mind. It's been a long time since I've had a friend, well outside of my husband. Most people are afraid of us scientists and now that I' in command of this ship I fear more will be cautious," Cyndi commented "The joys of being in command," she laughed.
Amethyst nodded. “Give people time to get to know you, they may surprise you. In the meantime anytime you need to talk or just want some company feel free to come see me. My door is always open.”
"Thank you for that," Cyndi said smiling
“My pleasure” Amethyst smiled. “I guess I’d best be getting back to my files, I have psychological reviews to conduct.”
"Hopefully I'm not at the top of your list," Cyndi teased "But in any case It was a pleasure meeting you."
“Oh you’ll be on my list but I’m sure I can arrange for it to not be first!” Amethyst smiled as she rose from her seat. “It’s been nice meeting you too.”
"Likewise," Cyndi said getting to her feet. "I better make an appearance on the bridge. We are after all doing a shakedown cruise. Fell free to visit the bridge at anytime."
“Oh I will” Amethyst grinned. “I love being on the bridge! That’s where I’ll be when I’m between appointments.” She nodded politely and started towards the door waiting long enough for Cyndi to catch her up as they were both leaving the room.
Cyndi walked to the door of her ready room and followed Amethyst out.
