Sitting in their quarters resting Christina had wondered why her husband was later home than usual for his lunch hour. She’d gotten used to David dropping in to check she was behaving herself and resting as she’d been instructed. She needed the exercise so she made her way to the area of the ship best known as marine country to visit David.
Hoisting a bottle of Jack, David continued, "So seven Jem'Hadar set upon me, and I killed them all in close quarters combat, it was a glorious fight!!!", He bellowed, taking another drink. Seeing his wonderfully stunning wife walk in, he jumped up on top of a table, and yelled, "Marines, meet my wonderfully stunning wife Christina Hurd!!!"
Christina turned several shades of embarrassed red as she blushed. “Err ... it’s nice to meet you all.” She looked towards David. “I’m sorry if I’m intruding on a celebration ...” It was then she noticed the change in her husband’s rank insignia. “Major! You got promoted!? Congratulations!!”
Master Sergeant Dallas also arrived to the group.
" Hello Ma'am. Major skuttle butt has it a cruiser was attacked past the Station. With your permission I need to place the men on alert?" Dallas said as he saluted the Major.
“Attacked?” Christina looked concerned. “Anything we should worry about?”
" No ma'am. Base fighters intercepted and repelled them." Dallas replied.
Christina nodded. “Thank you, that’s good to know.”
" Major your orders?" Dallas asked as he was nervous to be there.
Looking at Dallas, Hurd replied, "Place Alpha and Bravo teams on alert." Shaking his head, he continued, "Should have known not to throw a party."
" Yes sir," Dallas saluted and replied before returning to his teams.
Christina smiled. “Hey, you have to let your hair down Sometime, besides this counts as a double celebration for you. A promotion and the news of you becoming a father so you're allowed to throw a party.”
Grinning, he kissed her and turned to his men. "Oh yeah Marines, I'm gonna be a Dad!!!". He could feel his heart thudding in his chest as uttered those words, and a wide smile spread across his face.
The marines clapped and yahooed at Hurds news.
Dallas added, " Built in baby sitters sir."
Christina couldn’t help but grin. “Sounds like the perfect arrangement to me.”
Hurd was greeted by Corporal Vtech, with news from the bridge.
" Sir we will not be needed after all. The base has deployed a security detachment and apprehended those responsible." Dallas instructed.
Christina breathed a quiet sigh of relief, she knew there’d be times that her husband would be required to do his job and she’d cope but right now she was glad he wasn’t needed.
Hurd nodded and said, "Good, stand the men back down". Turning to his Wife, he asked, "So would you and the Men like to hear how I got this scar on my face?"
“As long as you promise not to terrify me!” Chrissy grinned. “I’ll admit it adds to your handsome, rugged demeanour!”
The three squads joined around with Hurd in the middle including Master Sergeant Dallas.
Taking another shot, he started to speak. "What a lot of people don't know is that not all Dominion Forces surrendered at the end of the war." "I was, at one time, in charge of a group that hunted down and either forced these rogue foces to surrender, or eliminated them, and as we all know, the Dominion almost always fought to the death. And it was during one of those missions where the scar came from",
"The ship I was on was jumped by 2 rouge Jem'Hadar Fighters. "In the ensuing chaos, shields were knocked out and we were boarded". "I along with my men, fought back, and it ended up with me in personal combat with their Alpha." "He stabbed me in the face, and pulled down, ripping it open." "Even though covered in blood, in shock, and hurting, I eliminated him, the rest of his men, and we ended up destroying both Jem'Hadar ships".
Dallas and the marines stood bug eyed at his story.
" Have another round and tell that story again sir." Dallas replied.
Christina grinned. She could tell this was turning into a drinks and storytime fest. Just the thought of what happened had made her wince at her husband’s injuries. “Do I really want to hear stories of gory injuries?” She shook her head and kissed David on the cheek. “I’ll see you at home later. Enjoy yourself.”
Dallas immediately snapped to attention followed sluggishly by his marines. A tribute to Marine Major's wife.
Christina smiled warmly nodding her thanks to the marines before heading on her way. She had no doubt her husband was in safe hands with his men.
When she was gone Dallas addressed the squads.
" At ease. Major do you wish to speak to the marines further?"
Looking at his wife walking away, Hurd said, "Not tonight Men, carry on and keep celebrating." Staggering to his feet, he rushed to Christina's side, wrapping a arm around her waist and kissing her on the cheek. "I didn't mean to scare you baby".
Christina smiled. “No it’s okay. You’re a marine, it’s what you do. I married you knowing that. I wouldn’t change a thing about you, even if I could. I just need to get used to you going out there when you’re needed.”
" I promise you, I will always come back to you". Smiling, he asked, "So what are you thinking about?”
“Me?” Christina smiled. “I was thinking maybe you, me and a romantic evening together?” She smiled a wry smile. “I just want to be alone with you.”
Hurd kissed her again and smiled. "You know, I'd like that idea alot myself ."
“Excellant” Christina smiled. “I do believe there’s a nice comfy double bed waiting for us.”
"Oh I would say so", Hurd said smiling. "Shall we carry this conversation on in private then?"
Christina nodded. “I would like that very much.”
