Mission:
Planet Savai
Location: Hurd Quarters
Timeline: Current
Walking in the door, Hurd dropped like a rock into a chair. Burying his head in his hands, he began to cry while repeating "I can't belive they found her, I can't belive they found the Iwo Jima."
“David?” Christina walked over to her husband, looking at him with concern. “What’s happened? What’s the Iwo Jima?”
Not looking up, he said, shaking, "She was a Sovereign Class ship crewed by all Marines, and had a Marine Division aboard, for a total of 2,377 personnel who was lost, no correction, flat out vanished, during the Dominion war at the Battle Of Betazed". I had so many friends aboard, and now, after all this time, she turned back up," he said tears streaming down his face.
Christina knelt beside her husband and wrapped her arms around him. “I’m so sorry!” She held him lovingly. “Isn’t there any chance of anyone being left alive? They are, or were, marines they know how to survive.”
"No, no chance", he stuttered. "She took so much damage before she vanished its impossible."
“Nothing is impossible my love” Christina moved to sit close by. “So what’s going to happen now that the ship has been found?”
I'm going there to, among other things bring the honored dead home", he stuttered. "Then maybe see if, and big if, we can bring the ship itself home".
Christina nodded. “I understand, they were your friends. You need to see them get home.” She offered a smile. “Just promise me you’ll be careful.”
"I will baby and I have something to ask you". Hurd looked up with tears streaming down his face and asked, "Will you go with me?" "I dont think I can do this without you by my side"
“Me?” Christina looked at her husband in surprise as she gently wiped away his tears. “If the Captain will allow it, then yes I’ll go with yo u. Will they permit a civilian along on your away team?”
"Its my away team, they had better allow it", he choked out.
“It’ll be okay my love” Christina held her husband’s hand offering all her support. “I’ll be there with you, we’ll do this together.”
"I'm glad", he replied, the tears streaming down his face".
Christina gently wiped away her husband’s tears. It hurt to see him so upset. “When do we have to leave?” She pulled a few tissues from a box on the coffee table nearby and handed them to him.
"Soon baby", Hurd said wiping the tears from his eyes. Speaking softly he said, "So many good Men and Women, Honorable Marines all, just dead." "The mission ahead hurts my heart and soul". He went silent for what seemed a eternity to him, and said, "At least we can bring them home."
Christina nodded. “It would certainly help their families to know they’ve been found.” She offered a reassuring smile. “What do I need to pack? I’m not used to away party duty, civilians normally don’t get chosen to go.”
"I'll need you to take a recorder, a phaser, and you'll need to wear a suit of the Helldiver Armour, which I’ll teach you to use, and more importantly", he cracked a tear stained smile, 'Your love".
“That’s something you’ve always got, just think of it as an invisible cloak that’s always around you.” Chrissy smiled and leaned in for a kiss before gently wiping away his tears. “I’ll grab a recorder and my phaser, I don’t use it very often but I keep it just incase. I take it the armour will protect us? She rested her hand on her stomach.
"Yes hun, yes it will", Hurf said kissing her gently. "You can head over to the closet for all the equipment I mentioned. Smiling he added, "Let's let you get ready, I have several more briefings and meetings I need to attend".
