Mission: Shake Down Cruise
Timeline: Concurrent. To Shake Down 1

On

First Officers Log : Pursuant to proper shake down of the Amandora I am temporarily assisting our propulsion expert and engineering officer with maintenance of the ships engines. This should prove vsery interesting.

Horton Clinton had come aboard in a rather handled way and boy was he not happy about that. On loan from Star fleet he had hoped to be received appreciated but greeted by a phaser rifle didn't scream welcome. Adding insult he had a limited crew and a Romulan exchange officer to contend with. Boy did he miss is old shop on Saturns moon Titan.

Centurion Alona, dressed in her Romulan Republic uniform and sporting her Romulan weapons, entered the shuttlebay and made her way over to the shuttle, making sure to remain slightly behind the rifle line, but with a clear view of the hatch. She clasped her hands behind her back, placed her feet shoulder-width apart, and waited. Patience was a skill that Romulans had honed for centuries, and once the cloaking device had been invented, had become vital for survival and espionage. Plus, being around all these anxious, nervy, and constantly tense individuals was going to be a true test of her own ability.

" Excuse me? Romulan officer person I am Lt Clinton, engineer. We're supposed to meet the XO here and go over the warp drive configurations," Horton greeted.

Alona let her arms relax at her sides and stepped a pace forward. "I am Centurion Alona, not 'Romulan officer person'." She went into Alona mode. "I'm sure the Executive Officer is just now plodding their way down here. Let me, at least, get the preliminaries out of the way." Pulling her tricorder from her belt and flipping it open, Alona then scanned his combadge, then cross-referenced that data with his medical bioscan. He was who he said he was--unofficially. "Please, be patient, Lt. Clinton." She put the tricorder away and stood her ground, not allowing him to pass.

First Officer Will Raymond entered the scene and hasted to talk to both officer's.

" Oh good I see you two have met. Lt Clinton welcome to the Amandora. Centurion I have discussed with Captsin Song your desire to try out a slip stream drive. She is not against the project so we are all going tobgo looks see which system bestbworks for the Amandora." Will greeted.

" Slip stream? Whose the Captain the Borg Queen?" Horton snickered.

" Captain Cyndi Song PhD, Mister Clinton. Lt Tal is an expert in that drive system and has some specs to show us." Will replied.

Even though Alona didn't sigh, it showed in her eyes when next she spoke. "It is Lieutenant Alona, or Centurion, if one remembers. Tal is my Family name." Taking a breath and closing her eyes a moment she realigned back to the moment. "The slipstream data is theoretical but, also, it is probable. Commander Raymond, would you be opposed to granting me a tertiary engineering/science lab for my work?" It needed to be added. "A private, secure lab, Sir. I don't need others mucking about unless invited."

" Tertiary...why she sounds Borg," Horton poked.

Will grimaced to Horton's tone.

" Centurion sorry to offend. A work station sounds do able. Mr Clinton as our loaner engineer see to that." Raymond replied. Leading them to engineering all were silent. Will then began.

" Show us why slip stream is better Centurion Alona."

Cyndi walked into engineering just in time to hear the question "Slip Stream has it's advantages. I'll let Alona explain it as she can far better than I can."

Horton seeing Captain Song interrupted Alona. " Captain I am Lt Horton Clinton, from Saturn Fleet Yards. I was sent here to see to the shake down of your warp drive system. This is a star ship not a Romulan war bird or Borg cube full of tertiary...alcoves."

"I'm well aware of that," Cyndi responded "I see nothing wrong with hearing her out about the slip stream drive and if it's even possible to have it here."

Horton nodded, " Yes Ma'am."

" Please continue Centurion," Will added.

The density factor for these people was Amazing, Alona thought to herself. "You're right, a Warbird isn't a starship, not at all," her tone had become both cynical and sarcastic. "If you mean that this is a Federation starship, not a Romulan starship, then your words would make more bloody sense! Quantum slipstream will increase our speed, yes. But, the biggest factor is it is more power efficient, so that said power can be allocated to other systems when needed. This is one of a few classes of ships that has civilians aboard, at all times. I would think that something like more power to safety systems would be welcomed. When I mentioned anything regarding the word 'quantum', I was meaning that I am used to working on a "starship"," she put her hands up and made the quotes motion, a jab at the earlier word usage. "That has a quantum singularity as a core. A 'quantum singularity drive'...as in, the apparatus itself." She raised her eyebrows in a cheeky way, the cynicism still in her eyes. "Now, did everyone get that or should I write it down so you can read it at your leisure?"

"I fully understand what you've just said. Do you think it would be a good idea to add it to this ship and can it be done in space?" Cyndi asked "And if so how long will it take?"

Taking in a breath and slowly letting it out, to get herself re-aligned, Alona gave a respectful nod to her CO. "Yes, Captain, it can be. However, while any changes are being applied the entire warp system, aside from power allocation, will have to be shut down. Also, we will have to recalibrate the computer core since the slipstream requires constant monitoring and updates while in flight. The difficulty with Amandora is the size of the Primary Hull. Usually, ships that look more aerodynamic are chosen for the slipstream."

Lt Horton Clinton had heard enough about this.

" I am a warp drive engineer not a slip stream mechanic. If Star Fleet, oh and we are in Star Fleet, wanted a Galaxy class ship they would have designed Amandora with one." he muttered.

Will replied. " Mr Clinton this is a meeting to discuss options not an over hall. You are excused to complete your inspection. I will join you."

Horton paused.

"That will do," Cyndi said looking at Clinton "Then Alona your saying it is possible but for it to be done properly we'll need to be at a star base. How much time are we talking should I want to have it installed?"

After dealing with these people Alona could hear the bottle of Kali-fal calling her name from her quarters. It was probably a far better choice than the swill these Humans drank. "We're talking several weeks, Captain. When I spoke to you in regards to said system, as I have clarified, it was in reference to the quantum singularity warp core. If I misspoke and said slipstream by accident, you have my apologies." She gave a cheeky grin, her eyes glancing around. "But, a Galaxy class riding on the power of a black hole...could be impressive." She cleared her throat lightly. "I believe, in my honest opinion, that the slipstream drive would be a waste of time. The maintenance to keep such a system working can be difficult."

Will escorted Horton out of the vicinity while Captain Song remained with Lt Alona. Once he had re-instructed the visiting Star fleet engineer on etiquette he then returned to join them.

Will heard the end of Alonas answer and only wished Horton had not been so mule headed.

" Centurion thank you for your candor and explanation. We appreciate all that you bring to this crew and look forward to this cultural exchange." Will added.

"A quantum singularity warp core would be highly impressive," Cyndi said after giving it some though. And yes I agree that a slip stream drive would be a waste of energy and man power. Is this warp core you've suggested something that can be done in space or would it be better done at a star base? Either way I do like the idea."

Will was curious too but for a much different reason.
