ON:

Tara walked over and knelt next to her cousin after she'd read the scans on the ancient city Kristian had been to "That city has my curiosity peeked."

"When they told me it was forbidden you know me, I had to go look and while I didn't get a good look at it it's worth going to again and this time take the archeologist with us," Kristian suggested "Even though I know you studied archeology as well."

"How do you think I got my doctorate degree?" Tara asked "Rest that ankle a few minutes more and I'll be back." Tara got up and walked over to where Ellie was "Do you feel like exploring that forbidden old city my cousin has been to?"

“Aren’t we supposed to be staying away from that?” Ellie looked at Tara curiously. “Not that I’d refuse a chance to make a discovery.”

Tara grinned "My home planet suffered a major attack, the original city was pretty much destroyed. There are still a number of buildings intact. My father ordered everyone to stay away from it. Well Kristian and I are defiant enough we didn't listen we went anyway. Telling me a place is off limits only sparks my interest. When I was pulled from the away team I was devastated and gave my cousin a tri-coder, vials and such to bring back things for me. She's been to the city and I've seen her scans and things she's brought me. I want to see it. Now if you don't want to go, Kristian and I will explore. We're both armed. Right now she's resting her bad ankle per my order,"

Ellie shook her head. “Kristian can’t go with her ankle the way it is. I will go with you.”

"Kristian's ankle is fine, when she was sixteen she crashed a shuttle on our home world and shattered her ankle. Our doctors repaired it. It only bothers her when she's been on it too long. This is the first time its acted up in a long time," Tara said

About that time Kristian walked over to where they were "You still fussing over me?" Kristian asked "Those ruins won't wait, I'm ready to go."

"How's the ankle?" Tara asked

"Fine, it just needed rest, thank you," Kristian said.

“Are you sure you’ll be able to manage?” Ellie looked concernedly at Kristian. “I’m going along, I have to admit I’m more than a little curious.”

"Trust me, I'm fine, it just needed rest," Kristian assured her "Let's go."

Ellie looked at Tara, “You good to go?”

"Kristian lead on since you've been there," Tara said

"It's not far, we can make it in about thirty minutes," Kristian said heading out.

Ellie nodded. “Won’t we be missed? They’ll wonder where we’ve gone to.”

"The commander will figure we've gone to explore," Tara commented as she scanned the area ahead.

“That’s true” Ellie nodded. “I’m looking forward to learning more about the history at these ruins, I’m already intrigued!”

They headed out and in a short time arrived at the ancient ruins and ancient buildings. Tara let out a low whistle as she looked at the old buildings and structures. Pulling out her tri-coder she scanned them "These ruins, I've seen something like this before."

Ellie nodded. “The buildings do look familiar, something about the design, and these carvings ..” She looked at some nearby ruins. “There’s something ...” She shook her head and looked at Tara.

Tara walked closer to one of the structures and looked at it carefully, "These are from several different cultures, some from Earth from what they called the Middle Ages, Mayan's, some appear to be Romulan and some I've never seen before."

Kristian hearing the word Romulan pulled out her tri-coder and scanned the area "Tara I'm not picking up any Romulan life signs here."

"Neither am I, these structures are thousands of years old,"Tara replied "They have not been here for centuries so we have nothing to worry about. Besides dear cousin there is a treaty between them and us."

Ellie looked at Tara curiously. “So what are signs from Romulan, Human, and other cultures doing here?” She motioned to some more writings. “These are Vulcan. I don’t understand any of this.”

"These are Klingon and those," Kristian said pointing "Are Denobulian. I interned there. Tara, Ellie when I was here before there were men here, they tied me up but I was able to get away. They were talking about mining and the cats were too afraid of this place to come here."

"Something is going on here," Tara agreed.

Ellie looked around. “We should get readings and recordings on all this and get back to the others. We can show the Commander what we’ve found and see what he wants us to do next.”

"We need more evidence before we can show him anything," Tara said "Kristian which building were you in?"

"That one," Kristian replied pointing to what looked like an old adobe house. "It seemed to be their headquarters. I didn't get much of a chance to look around before the men showed up."

Ellie looked towards Kristian, “Is it possible they had some sort of trigger alarm that you tripped by accident?”

"I don't know, I heard voices and ducked in there to hide, next thing I know is the men entered and I told them I got lost from my friends," Kristian said.

Ellie nodded. “Well let’s be extra cautious just in-case.”

Kristian walked over to the structure she'd been in and ran several scans and looked back at the other two. "There is nothing wrong it it. No evidence of a power source of any kind. But those men did mention mining."

Tara walked over and looked at Kristian's readings and nodded "But there is a power source, it's deep in the planet. Any idea where the mine is? Ellie what do you think?"

Ellie took a look at the readings. “Looks to me ...” She looked around. “It’s that way, possibly hidden in some way to stop prying eyes and visitors. Which means they wouldn’t expect any.”

"Then let's go see what is going on and we can report this to the commander," Kristian said.

“Agreed” Ellie nodded.

Kristian drew her phaser and set it on heavy stun, "Heavy stun cousin. Ellie unless your armed get between Tara and I."

Tara set her phaser on heavy stun "Ellie lead the way and when we get close to the mine do as the doctor said."

Ellie nodded, setting off she headed the way she thought the mine should be. Treading carefully as they walked through the ruins it didn’t take long to reach an area that no one would think twice to look at. “It’s got to be here” she pointed not far from them.

"Stay here," Tara said taking to the shadows and walking quietly forward. There was a large outcropping of rocks and after a careful inspection returned to where Ellie and Kristian were waiting "There is a cavern there and a lot of footprints. I heard sounds like someone is chiseling away at something."

"Get in that structure now!" Kristian said shoving both of them forward "One of those voices I'm hearing is one of the men who captured me earlier."

Ellie quickly headed inside and hid in a darkened corner, there wasn’t a lot of cover but it was the best place she could find.

Tara and Kristian took up positions on either side of the door with phasers drawn.

Kristian watched, seeing a familiar figure pointed and nodded to Tara indicating he was the same person from earlier.

"Phasers on wide sweep, heavy stun," Tara called her voice just a whisper

Nodding Kristian set her weapon on wide sweep as she and Tara stepped forward and fired. The three men fell to the ground. "We need to tell the commander," as she holstered her weapon.

"I agree," Tara said holstering her weapon as she and Kristian stepped outside and dragged the three men into the structure. "Ellie you okay? Need Kristian to check you out?"

“No, I’m fine.” Ellie offered a smile as she stood up from her corner. “This isn’t the first dangerous situation I’ve been in.”

"And I'm sure it won't be the last," Kristian commented as they stepped out of the structure "I wonder why the Fur's as they're called are afraid of this place?"

"It could be that mine," Tara said "Before we go into it we need to tell the commander. If the opening is big enough I can take the fighter in. The Fur's might know of the mine we can't do anything until we talk to them. The Prime Directive might apply here."

Ellie nodded in agreement. “We do need some guidance here, we don’t want to be causing an incident by charging on in there.”
