MSG Dallas was not informed of the poker game and incident until the next day when orders read for the marines to be disciplined from 0300 til 0700.
Following his assigned orders Dallas ran through their barracks and call them all to fall out for formation.
" I don't know what the Hell you all did. No body saw fit to tell the Master Sergeant anything. Do run ladies run." yelled Dallas. He also joined the run as he felt responsible having gone to the ships shrink rather than be there for his marines.
Falling into formation ahead of them, Hurd laughed and said, "Good morning people, now RUN FASTER, COMMON MOVE IT!!!" Nodding to the Master Sargent, Hurd said, "Good morning Dallas".
" Major. We are running as per your orders, sir." Dallas replied
Sensing somthing concerning in his voice, he said, "Dallas, what's wrong"?
" Nothing I am aware of Major. The Marines have been running for twenty minutes now. What did they do to merit this?" Dallas replied
"Got drunk, started a bar fight over allegations of cheating with some fleeters, and destroyed the place". "Now they run:.
" Fair enough justice I suppose. If you put marines on a boat you should expect such behavior." Dallas chuckled.. John then added. " Major I am putting in for a discharge to Starbase Mercury. An opening in the security department has been unfilled and I think it's time to move on."
"The hell you are!", Hurd roared. Growing red in the face, he added, "Just what are your reasons?",
" Reasons sir ? I think maybe that's personal sir. I just think it's a lateral move for me at this time. After this tour I will submit my request for transfer. Lt Hong the station security chief says that he will hold the slot in his T O and e for me." Dallas replied with his half truthed response
'Unacceptable", Hurd said. "I reject your transfer request, and am furthermore giving you a direct order to tell me your real reasons because I do not like being lied to."
Dallas stopped jogging and walked straight up to the Major.
" You can't handle the truth Major and I don't want a mark on my record for kicking your damned ass Sir. You are a hot head and need to reel yourself in before anyone else gets killed." Dallas replied as his own temper flared.
"First off, you couldn't kick my ass if you tried", Hurd said with a grimm smile on his face. "Secondly, I have my emotions perfectly in place and under control." Falling silent for just a moment he added, "So out with it, what has you upset, and I want the truth here and now, understand me?"
" Major I watched you murder in cold blood fury Lt Kordell. I also watched as Commodore Song and General Long swept it under the rug and promote you for doing it. I can not follow such a LEADER." Dallas declared.
Dallas recalled in his mind what he witnessed.
< Starbase Mercury a few weeks ago >
" You are nothing, and today, you will die at my hand and spend eternity in Gre'Thor". Hurd stopped talking and pulled his .45, aiming it at Kordell and waiting for his next move.
"I was her first." Kordell smiled as blood oozed. Taunting Hurd he raised his hand like a phaser." Let slip the dogs of war."
Hurd pulled the trigger first, in 6 rapid fire jerks, the booms echoing around the room.cauing everyone but him to shiver. He holstered his weapon and walked over to Kordell's now lifeless body, a pool of blood spreading from underneath it. Spitting on the corpse, Hurd turned and asked, "Who wants the body?"
In Kordell's hand a childs pacifier dropped to the floor as he had used it to mimic having a hand phaser.
Will and Dallas arrived as the shots fired, witnessing Hurds actions.
" Master Sergeant escort the Captain back to the Amandora.
Flashing back to now Sergeant Major Dallas had finally found the courage to confront Hurd on this matter.
" Kordell was my friend and was infected with a deadly tick. He did not deserve to die without honor." John added.
