Mission:
Planet Savai
Location: Amandora
Timeline: Current
::ON::
[Quarters]
James had just finished breakfast and was about to leave for the day when Heather asked "So, what are you up to today."
"Well now that the away team is back from Planet Savai I thought that I should go introduce myself to the XO and Lieutenant Kees" he replied.
"Sounds like a good idea, you don't want to come off as snob by not meeting these people" she responded.
"Your probably right....anyway I'll see you later then" then he leaned in and gave Heather a kiss "Love you." Then was out the door.
"Commander Raymond this is Lieutenant James McTavish, I was wondering if we could meet; I'd like to introduce myself when your free" he stated..
Will was tired but approachable as he had just been two parsecs away . Via the zoom screen Will nodded.
" Of course Lieutenant where would you like to meet?" Will asked
"Where ever is convenient for you Commander" James replied.
" Meet me on the observatory deck." Will replied
< Observation Deck >
Will loved to watch the star's and no where better than the Amandora's big window with the wheel could he do that.
"On my way" came the reply. So James made his way to the Observation Deck. This was his first time being there.
James walked up to the Commander, who was gazing at the stars, and when he was about three feet from the him he stopped and snapped to attention "Lieutenant James McTavish, Sir"
" McTavish are you Scotch sir? My ancestors were from the highlands of Earth. How's it going?" Will replied .
Since Will started the conversation already James decided to put himself at ease "Yes Commander, my family is from Inverness Scotland and have been there for generations. Actually it's been going quite well, I think yourself and Lieutenant Kees are the only Crew that I haven't met" James answered.
" She is a good officer when she's asleep. Inverness Wow. I'll have to introduce you to my misses. Counselor Amethyst Raymond."
James chuckled at both remarks "I'll have to take your word for Lt. Kees, but I've beaten you to the punch concerning the Counselor. By Starfleet Regs, I had to have an Eval before I could start work; so I've already met her and may I say she is a very pleasant person."
" We are so glad to have you aboard. What is your specialty Lieutenant?"
James thought for a moment "When I was on the USS Dunkirk I was given a Fellowship from the Science Academy. After I finished the course of study, I am a Fellow of Space Sciences. I figured as a CSO that would be a better course of study than a PhD; so my specialty is Space Sciences" he concluded.
" Chief Science boy I have been gone a while . Well welcome to the Amandora. We are a busy group but you'll do great " Will replied
"Thank you Commander for your confidence; I'll be sure not to disappoint you. Of course I have the lovely Heather McTavish to keep me on the straight and narrow; without her I'd be lost. I was quite lucky that there was an opening here for her as she heads up the Biology Department" James answered.
" I have learned one thing though Lieutenant, never mix duty with your home life. It is a recipe for disaster. Commodore Song is an professor and expects her science department to be on their A game 24/7." Will replied as a warning.
"Not to worry Commander, when we're on duty everything is per Stafleet Regs. We both understand how important that is; but thanks for the advice" James commented although he was a little taken back by the comment.
" When you figure out how to do that let me know. As XO I have two wives. The Commodore and my wife." Will chuckled. " We are all in this together."
"Ya, that's probably not going to happen. In order to achieve that I'd have to figure out my Irish Lass which would take more than one lifetime I have a feeling; I guess we just do the best we can" James replied with a laugh.
" We do. Now as to work we have just returned from Savai. Their culture resides on islands that hover. Achieved by the magnetic fields of the red crystals under them that are the exact polarity of the planets magnetic core. I am sure Lt Herculoid has given you her reports on this?" Will added.
"Not yet, but I'm meeting with her tomorrow to over some of the data from the away mission. I asked her to make sure she was healed before resuming her work schedule" James replied.
As much as James was enjoying his conversation with the XO he still wanted to meet with Lieutenant Kees "I think I've taken up enough of your time Commander. It was nice to meet you and put a name with a face. I'm looking forward working with you" he replied.
" You as well Lieutenant." Will replied
James made his way to the Lab where, hopefully, Lieutenant Kees would be.
[Archaeologist Lab]
When James entered the Lab he looked around for a face that he didn't recognize, being that he had been here a few times already. Then he saw a fresh face and walked up to her "Excuse me, Lieutenant Ellie Kees, I'm Lieutenant James McTavish the new CSO here."
Ellie smiled warmly as she greeted McTavish, “It’s nice to meet you Lieutenant. Welcome to the Archaeology lab.”
James returned the smile "It's nice to meet you too and thank you for the warm greeting. Although I must confess I've been by a few times while you were on the away mission. So how did the mission go; lots of good data I hope."
Ellie nodded. “There’s plenty of data, I also brought back some samples of the crystals we encountered on the planet. Lieutenant Herculoid has been doing her own research into the crystals as well.”
"I'm sure after the Lieutenant has had time to go over the crystals then she'll bring me up to speed" he replied "So were you able to learn anything about their customs or culture, since that is your area of expertise?"
“What I thought we knew has turned out to be something of a shambles, it appears the whole humanoid colony on the planet are more or less descendants of a group left on the planet hundreds of years ago. It’s all come as a shock to the natives, fortunately our official contact Kodos has returned to the ship with me.”
James thought for a moment "That's what my Granny used to call 'a bit of sticky wicket'; as much as it's a shock the the natives, at least now they know the truth" he commented "Sounds to me like it did them a favor."
Ellie grinned. “Indeed, and that’s not a saying I’ve ever heard before! I like it though.”
James kind of chuckled "Yes, my Granny McTavish had all kinds of sayings like that. Anyway, you look like you have a lot to do so I'm going to let you get to it. I'll drop by every now and then to see what's going on. Is there anything you need in your department?" he asked.
Ellie looked around. “Not that I can think of right now, as long as I have a working replicator I’m happy!” She grinned.
"It was very nice to meet you Lieutenant and if you need anything please don't hesitate to ask; my Office is always open" James replied.
“Thank you Sir, I’ll remember that” Ellie smiled warmly. “Likewise if you should need to drop by.”
"Have a pleasant day" and with that comment James turned and went to the CSO's office to go over some more reports.
